PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Evaluate, coordinate, and provide leadership for the secondary 6 - 12 English Language Arts and Reading instructional program of the district. Responsible for the effective and efficient supervision of the implementation of the district secondary ELAR curriculum; creating and vetting high quality district assessments; ensuring that teachers in STAAR-tested subjects (6 – 8 RLA and English I and II) are provided the training, resources, and coaching necessary to elevate student achievement; providing instructional coaching and PLC support on campuses; providing professional development on instructional strategies, programs, and initiatives; evaluating and acquiring quotes for materials and instructional programs; overseeing implementation of district-wide programs.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in education administration, curriculum and instruction, or teaching
  • English Language Arts and Reading secondary certification
  • Principal’s certification preferred
  • Certified T-TESS appraiser preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough demonstrated knowledge of 6 - 12 ELAR TEKS and curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and scheduling
  • Ability to coordinate district trainings
  • Ability to present effective and engaging staff development
  • Ability to facilitate PLCs
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Three years experience as a secondary RLA/ELAR classroom teacher
  • Experience in instructional leadership roles preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and/or lead professional development opportunities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITEIS AND DUTIES:


Coordinate and Secure Professional Development Opportunities

  • Facilitate the alignment and development of the 6 – 12 ELAR curriculum based upon continuing systematic review and analysis.

2. Collaborate with instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional programs with teachers, instructional coaches and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.
  • Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
  • Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.
  • Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of educational goals.
  • Ensure that district goals and objectives are developed using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques when appropriate.
  • Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district’s goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district.
  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals, objectives, and campus performance objectives.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.
  • Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist principals and instructional staff in attaining objectives with adherence to the district’s business and finance regulations.
  • Provide effective and engaging staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from teachers and others.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in curriculum and instruction area.
  • Compile, maintain, and present all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Demonstrate use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Review and analyze data, including student achievement data, to examine instructional program effectiveness.
  • Model behaviors, which ensure the development of a district team, focused on problem solving and meeting student needs.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff.
  • Actively seek training and information, which will enhance skills and knowledge, related to responsibilities.
  • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to the community and solicit their support in realizing the mission.
  • Maintain records of district 6 - 12 ELAR professional development attendance (sign in sheets, Eduphoria attendance records) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established
