General Statement of Duties:

The Residential Manager works with a person-centered team to develop, implement, and coordinate supports that address the needs and interests of consumers and assist them in safely reaching their personal goals for skill development and community integration. The manager plans and coordinates all activities, manages the daily schedule, and ensures the space used is adequately furnished and supplied with materials and equipment to facilitate independent living. Manager will ensure staff work to help participants reach their goals and receive training as needed to effectively work with consumers. The Residential Manager is responsible for ensuring that the group home operates within the policies and procedures of the agency and meets licensing and accreditation standards.

Essential Job Functions:

A. Provides Quality Services

  • Leads a person-centered team in the group home that develops a positive relationship with each consumer.
  • Provides direct care when needed to ensure that consumers get to medical appointments, programs and activities and receive daily care as intended. Schedules medical appointments for consumers and accompanies them; ensures emergency care is received as needed.
  • Conducts regular consumer meetings.
  • Prepares menus and ensures dietary needs are met.
  • Prepares monthly staff schedule, obtains substitutes or covers shift as needed to meet goal of no overtime.
  • Provides on-call back up and assists with emergency coverage and situations.
  • After completing DDD Medication Training, may administer medications in accordance with Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey’s policies and procedures which conform to DDD guidelines. Records administered medications.
  • Conducts an audit of medication records, reviews medication procedures of the group home, and ensures staff complies with guidelines. Works with Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey nursing staff to ensure all medications are received in a timely manner.
  • Works closely with nurse to strengthen liaison relationships with medical care providers and to ensure staff receive training by nurse as needed.
  • Develops, coordinates and participates in all IHP/IPP meetings for consumers.
  • Ensure proper implementation of Level I behavior modification plans for specific consumers. Inform Regional Manager and Behaviorist when significant behaviors arise.
  • Ensures group home staff help consumers achieve IHP goals and continually monitors progress made.
  • Regularly communicates with families and responds within 24 hours to consumer and family complaints, requests and concerns as needed, ensuring that problems are addressed and consumer needs are met.
  • Ensures program operates within budget including appropriate use of substitutes; maintains and submits documentation for all household and consumer expenditures; submits receipts for petty cash and Personal Needs Accounts.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of structured activities for consumers in areas of training in daily living skills, community integration, recreation and socialization.
  • Assists consumers in learning community integration skills including socialization, grooming, communication and accessing community services.
  • Orients new consumers and their families and ensures they receive all necessary information and completes documentation required by licensing.
  • Completes request for maintenance and repairs on the facilities database. Ensures follow up on repairs is completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures adequate supervision and support is provided to consumers when consumers are in the community.
  • Provides safe transportation for consumers and operates agency vehicles as outlined in the Vehicle Safety and Operations Handbook.
  • Successfully completes and demonstrates proficiency in all areas of required training.

B. Ensures Quality and Compliance Standards are Met

  • Ensures the group home follows Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate staff ratios, high quality services are delivered, and standards for licensing and accreditation are met.
  • Enters data in timely manner to all electronic records required by Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey and/or DDD or other funding source; ensures all staff do so as well.
  • Ensures program records are properly maintained and reports are prepared and submitted on time, including but not limited to, time and attendance, electronic case records, daily transaction records, monthly consumer attendance reports, and Consumer Monthly Progress Reports.
  • Ensures fire and emergency drills are conducted as required.
  • Maintains files at group homes including logs, consumer finances, consumer files, and other documentation.

C. Provides Supervision

  • Hires, trains, supervises, and monitors staff in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Acknowledges staff and expresses their value to Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey, deepening the commitment of staff to Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey.
  • Reviews time cards of all direct reports every 3 days and approves on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Provides guidance, mentoring, training and help with problem solving.
  • Conducts regularly scheduled supervision.
  • Ensures staff meet annual service goals and individual performance goals.
  • Ensures staff receive mandatory and, contingent upon availability of funds, professional development trainings.
  • Ensure new staff receives on-the-job orientation and training.
  • Available to address “On-Call” needs, based on schedule provided by Regional Manager.
  • When volunteers or interns are present at the site, assists with assigning tasks and monitoring their work.

D. Other Responsibilities

  • Routinely meets with supervisor and participates in management meetings and activities.
  • Maintains positive relationships with persons, businesses and organizations that seek to work with consumers.
  • Positively promotes Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey when working with persons inside and outside of Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey.
  • Cooperates with Beacon Specialized Living New Jersey, Inc. and Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) staff during any inspection or investigation.
  • Successfully completes and demonstrates proficiency in all areas of required training.
  • Acknowledges the employee’s name will be checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years experience working with persons with physical and/or developmental disabilities; 1 year experience as supervisor
  • Ability to complete certification as a Safety Care Specialist; certification requires physical moves that include, but are not limited to, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling and supporting another’s weight
  • Ability to understand and implement individualized supports
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the consumers with whom they are working
  • Ability to create appropriate activities for consumers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively complete work-related documentation through paper and computer records system
  • Computer literacy in using Word, Excel, Outlook and Electronic Case Records systems
  • Valid driver’s license and abstract (not to exceed 5 points)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Pre-service DDD Trainings
