Beacon Light Behavioral Health System is seeking an On-Call Registered Nurse who is responsible for working with the Program Director and Nursing Administration in the delivery of nursing care and overseeing health concerns within the agency on a per diem basis. The on-call nurse will be responsible for client assessments, occasional first aid, and take health related phone calls.

This would be providing services for the Residential Treatment programs serving children with mental health and/or intellectual disability diagnoses.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

This position gives preference to individuals with an active driver's license and a DMV check that is clear. Position may require travel in the local community.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Hold a degree in nursing
  • Hold an unrestricted Registered Nurse license

PAY:

  • Monday - Friday On-Call Daily Rate: $50
  • Saturday/Sunday On-Call Daily Rate: $75
  • Holiday On-Call Daily Rate: $125
  • Call Out Hours: $50/hour
  • Training Hours: $25/hour

SUMMARY: The On-Call Nurse is responsible for working with the Nurse Manager in the delivery of nursing care and overseeing health concerns within the agency on a per diem basis by performing the following duties.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Hold a degree in nursing and is a licensed registered nurse.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Duties: Duties the employee performs that although important do not have as major an impact on the delivery of services to our clientele

  • Participating in team meetings when requested to do so.
  • Communicating necessary information to other staff.
  • Knowing and supporting the agency mission, vision and value statements.
  • Working as a member of a team including being supportive and friendly to staff, treating others with respect, keeping personal problems away from work, splitting duties equally amongst co-workers, assisting co-workers when requested and welcoming new employees, giving them extra support and encouragement.
  • Attending and completing scheduled required annual training.
  • Reporting to work in a timely manner when scheduled.
  • Provide an appropriate role model for staff and the individuals they serve in appearance, actions, manner of speech, etc.
  • Following through on directives given to him/her by administrative staff.
  • Interacting with the individuals in a respectful manner that is appropriate for the situation.
  • Ensuring that incident reports are thoroughly completed and filed in a timely manner.
  • Knowing, understanding and following regulations specific to the agency.

Vital Duties: Duties the employee performs that have a major impact on the delivery of services to our clientele

  • Provide nursing assessments to employees for any staff injuries as needed, giving directions for follow up, and completing all required employee injury forms and/or documentation within 24 hours, and distributing employee prescription cards as needed.
  • Provide nursing assessments of clients for any illness or injuries as needed, giving instructions for basic nursing care to staff within the scope of LPN/RN practice, making referrals for further medical treatment as needed, and submitting all required completed documentation and/or forms within 24 hours.
  • Conducts face-to-face assessments on all residents following any use of passive physical restraint within one hour of initiation following the regulatory requirements that guide the assessment, completing and submitting all documentation and forms within 24 hours.
  • Obtain, verify ?read back? and appropriately document verbal orders for all therapeutic holds from the on-call LIP and submit completed documentation of same within 24 hours.
  • Complete after business hours admissions, including, but not limited to obtaining verbal admission orders from the on call LIP, physical verification of prescribed medications, transmitting orders to pharmacy, completing initial nursing assessment, communicating with day shirt nursing to coordinate ongoing care and further assessment needs, and submitting all necessary documentation within 24 hours.
  • Respond to any reports of medication errors/problems (unavailable) from unlicensed staff, including obtaining medications from emergency medication supplies, arranging for delivery from back up pharmacy, reporting any medication errors to the on call LIP, obtaining and appropriately documenting any related verbal orders given, facilitating implementation of said orders, and completion of any/all required documentation within 24 hours.
  • Remain current with all required training and insurances, including those required for the maintenance and retention of any state license, as well as others designated as required by the agency.
  • Agree to accept after hours, holiday and weekends in a schedule with other RN/LPN's

PROBATION EXPECTATIONS: Must demonstrate during probation competencies in the following areas:

1. Working with MH/MR Clients

2. Completing Nursing Assessments

3. Completing Staff Injury Assessments

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to individuals (children and young adults) who are from mild to profoundly retarded, autistic and may have severe behavior disorders and individuals who have the potential to be hiv-positive, have hepatitis or other communicable diseases.. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Agency Expectations: Staff are expected to:

1. Preserve the positive public image of the agency and its staff.

2. Be familiar with Agency's Procedure and Personnel Manuals and function within the directives provided.

3. Be aware of and follow regulations.

4. Report to administrative staff any situation that interferes with proper operation of the department/agency.

5. Report to administrative staff any actions by another employee which may constitute possible emotional or physical abuse.

6. Maintain a confidential attitude in regards information pertaining to the individuals we serve.

Annual Requirements

Training: The On-Call Nurse is required to complete the following training:

CPR (every 2 years) Documentation

First Aid (every 2 years) Policy and Procedure

Safe Crisis Management Review (every 6 months) Welcome to the Agency

HIPAA Corporate Compliance

PHYSICALS: This position requires a pre-employment physical and a periodic physical every other year thereafter.

Direct Supervision: The On-Call Nurse does not directly supervise any staff.
