Beacon Environmental, located in Bel Air, MD, recently moved to a state-of-the-art facility and is seeking motivated individuals to join our growing team. The Chemist I position is entry level and offers excellent growth opportunity with a Maryland based business that is internationally recognized as a leader in the environmental industry. This position will allow advancement within the company through training on state-of-the-art TD-GC/MS systems for the analysis of environmental samples.

BEACON provides an environmental sampling technology that is employed throughout the United States, as well as internationally across more than 45 countries spanning all 7 continents. Standard analytical procedures utilize gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) instrumentation to target trace levels of volatile and semi volatile organic compounds in soil vapor, indoor air, and ambient air. Samples are introduced through thermal desorption; therefore, we do not use bulk solvents in our laboratory and no glassware cleaning is required.

The position will offer an opportunity to work directly with the Quality Manager and a team of chemists to provide clients with environmental sampling kits and perform analytical methods to target a broad range of organic compounds. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Sample receiving and recording project data in sample receipt log,

• Sample preparation prior to sample analysis,

• Assembling thermally conditioned sorbent-based samplers,

• Training on the use of TD-GC/MS instruments,

• Training on monitoring analytical instrument performance and routine maintenance,

• Processing data using laboratory information managements system (LIMS),

• Producing data deliverables, and

• Actively participating in team meetings to improve company processes and deliverables.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related science

• Concern for accuracy, details, and producing quality work

• Experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

• Willingness to learn and use a laboratory information management system (LIMS)
