JOB SUMMARY: The Funding Specialist is responsible for preparing funding applications for grants and loans for projects. This position works closely with the Engineers, Project Mangers, and Funding Team to obtain the technical data needed for the applications and is charged with compiling and/or developing non-technical data required for the applications. The Funding Specialist helps to ensure the QA/QC process is completed prior to submission of funding applications for grants and loans.

REPORTS TO:  Principal-in-Charge

SUPERVISES: No supervisory responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares and develops state and federal grant and loan applications by with external and internal points of contact, drafting narratives that align with the funding goals, and collecting and submitting required documentation.
  • Manages activities related to the submission of state and federal grant applications.
  • Organizes project information and data to properly articulate goals, activities, anticipated outcomes, and successes of project completion.
  • Prepares written environmental reports regarding the mitigation of potential environmental impacts to proposed projects as a part of the funding process to comply with environmental laws.
  • Develops project funding deadlines, ensuring projects stay on task and proactively communicates funding-related deadlines to the project team.
  • Develops and maintains an internal tracking system, to be used for monitoring each of the Civil Department’s projects’ status with regards to the pursuit of funding.
  • Identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with officers, program managers at funding agencies, and community leaders to facilitate continued funding.
  • Requests information from municipal clients as required to complete funding applications.
  • Meets funding deadlines and provides clients with appropriate documents for their records and maintaining tracking of awarded projects.Ensures funding program requirements are adhered to.
  • Develops project summaries and project updates for government agencies in partnership with the project team.
  • Provides project funding status updates to the team and clients.
  • Prepares notices for publication to support funding applications.
  • Monitors, reviews, and inputs and/or state grant and loan data into the appropriate systems.
  • Attends conferences and online training as available and approved by the Supervisor to maintain knowledge of program changes, funding criteria, and preferences of funders.
  • Solicits feedback on how to improve existing and prior applications.
  • Liaise with the firm’s Business Development and Marketing departments to assist with marketing/proposal/branding efforts for the Civil department.
  • Generate new business by finding and developing leads from current and new clients, to include aligning with PIC/PM on strategic objectives, visiting with clients, and conducting follow-up activities with clients and PIC/PM.
  • Educate clients and staff about funding opportunities and processes. 
  • Support the RFP/RFQ/interview process by keeping the current Civil department project information and resumes updated for use in marketing pieces by interviewing project managers and team members.
  • Work on internal communication plans for the Civil department for the HIVE.
  • Accomplishes all other duties and tasks as assigned or requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant field required; Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant field preferred. 
  • Three years of funding and grant application experience or similar with demonstrated success preferred. 
  • Knowledge of infrastructure funding programs, environmental requirements, and engineering practices preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • NewForma proficiency preferred.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn InDesign.
  • Effective networking skills.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written communication.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, including ability to present to others in small and large group formats.
  • Excellent time management skills, with ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities effectively, while delivering quality work on time.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

PAY RANGE:

  • $25.00 - $34.62 per / hour
