Job Title- Supervisor of Wastewater Operations

Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and coordinate daily work activities of the wastewater operation staff. Maintain capital and expense budgets for this department. Prepare and or provide reports to DNREC on activities associated with our wastewater operations
DUTIES:
* Supervise the operations of the facilities we own.
* Provide back up to the director of wastewater.
* Assist Maintenance Department and coordinate routine maintenance programs for pumps, motors, storage tanks, control valves, chemical feed equipment, aerators, controls, disposal systems, and transmission/collection systems.
* Assist in the preparation of annual capital and expense budgets.
* Supervise daily work assignments of staff including verifying hours worked and scheduling vacations.
* Prepare performance appraisals for the Wastewater Operator personnel.
* Attend meetings and participate in staff and outside committees as requested.
* Recommend facility improvements including specific recommendations for facility and equipment needs.
* Responsible for all paperwork for the wastewater operations including all State and Federal reports.
* Participate with and provide input regarding upgrades required to maintain operations within regulatory guidelines.
* Prepare timesheets and overtime reports.
* Perform any and all other appropriate functions as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Previous supervisory experience preferred. High school graduate, with continuing education in the environmental field preferred. Delaware level 4 Operator in Training or level 4 license (or equivalent) preferred; however, a level 3 operator license (or equivalent) is required with intent to obtain a level 4 wastewater operation license. Operator license equivalency is subject to reciprocal approval by the Delaware licensing board. Minimum of 5 years of experience in wastewater operations at a reporting level. Knowledge of troubleshooting biological wastewater processes.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ability to use a keyboard, personal computer, calculator and telephone is necessary. Speaking, hearing, reading and writing are required to communicate with employees, answer telephones and type correspondence. The ability to perform a variety of physical activities, including, but not limited to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, standing and grasping are required to inspect tanks and piping in valve vaults. The ability to speak, hear, read and write are required for directing subordinates, detecting I&I, performing process control tests, reading and preparing reports. Visual acuity is required for analyzing data and figures. Responsibilities require advanced thought processes and learning abilities to permit the development of plans and courses of actions from complex alternatives.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The requirements are the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
Requires exposure to both climate-controlled office environment and outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat and cold, fumes, odors, dust, gases, oils, etc. Conditions/ environment also require close proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, etc. Sometimes requires use of a respirator or other breathing apparatus.
