In addition, we enable sponsorships of our world-class editorial output across passion driven BBC.com brands including News, Sport, Business, Innovation, Culture, Earth as well as social/digital exclusive extensions of globally beloved brands like Bluey and Top Gear. StoryWorks custom content solutions for partners are multi-platform ranging from content syndication to dynamic articles, short and long form films, podcasts, and live experiences. The unit prioritizes scalable, strategic, audience-first solutions to ensure campaigns always deliver on partner KPIs.
Job Purpose
The Executive Creative Director (ECD) for BBC StoryWorks Americas is a newly created position reporting into the VP of BBC StoryWorks Americas. This is a critical leadership position that will help drive the creative strategy and execution of all commercial content partnerships in North and South America. The position will manage and lead a team of both creative strategists (pre-sale) and creative producers (production) to drive forward best-in-class strategic creative ideation and innovative, engaging commercial content products that live up to the BBC's standards of excellence and consistently exceed partner expectations. The ECD will be responsible for driving forward a distinguished creative vision and consistent quality control for all content output from BBC StoryWorks Americas.
The ideal candidate will have 10 years' experience working in media/publishing, creative agencies or creative production companies/news/entertainment organizations. The ideal candidate is a creative visionary and force multiplier with demonstrated expertise leading creative teams of strategists and producers of branded/commercial content. An operational expert, the ECD must be a superb leader and coach for a developing team. While always pushing forward with innovative creative solutions, the ECD must be laser focused on developing concepts rooted in audience insights and maintain a deep understanding of client needs across industries and brand partners. This will also be a client-facing position and excellent communication/presentation skills, executive presence and a passion for innovative storytelling is a must.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Set the creative vision for all commercial content programs with advertising partners in the Americas to ensure that all content effectively engages our partners' target audience and adheres to the high-quality standards of the BBC brand.
  • Oversee flow of pre-sale operations and post-sale production across the BBC StoryWorks Americas content studio.
  • Lead strategists to conceive and develop creative ideas that translate client challenges into strategic, insight-led content solutions. Lead producers to create final content products that are engaging, on-strategy, and exceeds partner expectations and KPIs.
  • Manage and mentoring a team of creative strategists, producers, and editors fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and efficient creative environment.
  • Act as a trusted senior partner to Sales and Marketing leadership, working together to optimize collaboration between teams and providing expertise on best practices for creative strategy and content development.
  • Represent BBC StoryWorks in market as a senior authority on the BBC brand and BBC StoryWorks solutions and offerings, able to readily lead client meetings on the fly, developing category and market expertise to be shared across the team and the business.
  • Identify and develop innovative and culturally relevant business development opportunities for BBC StoryWorks and potential partners across all platforms including video, audio, social, digital, experiential, and beyond.
  • Drive innovation and experimentation in content creation, exploring new formats and techniques to engage our partner's targets in unique ways., and staying informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously elevate the quality of creative output.
  • Act as a brand steward, ensuring that all creative work reflects the BBC's values, standards of excellence and visual identity.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
Required Experience
  • 12 years of experience in a creative role, with 5 years in a leadership position, preferably within a brand studio or agency
  • Demonstrate experience conceptualizing, building, packaging, pitching and executing big ideas and signature programs across multiple platforms and industry categories
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a range of creative work, including web editorial, video content, audio, digital experiences, social campaigns, and experiential projects.
  • Expert in turning insights into creative strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build compelling narratives and frame creative ideas with powerful language and succinct detail, AND teach others to do the same
  • Superb leader with ability to be a player/coach and proven track record of growing high-performing strategic creative teams
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Experience
  • Strong client-facing background and presentation skills
  • Expertise in digital distribution tactics and ad networks
  • Background in journalism/editorial teams a plus
  • Strong understanding of digital content analytics tools (such as Comscore, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management tools such as Monday.com, Dropbox, Asana, etc.
  • A great sense of humor, self-motivation, and the ability to positively encourage and inspire a team of skilled professionals.
Compensation
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $160,000 to $175,000. This range does not include bonus compensation or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.
This range is not inclusive of a competitive bonus, flexible, hybrid working schedule & benefits including but not limited to: 100% BBCS covered medical & dental insurance, vision, & 401k match.
