Geologist or Hydrogeologist – Norcross, GA

JOB SUMMARY:

BB&E is seeking a Project Geologist, Hydrogeologist, and Environmental Scientist to support industrial and federal environmental remediation projects and programs. Industrial remedial experience is a plus.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform fieldwork that includes collecting soil, sediment, and groundwater samples.
  • Supervise the installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, and direct push technology (DPT) borings and direct contractors to perform the work as outlined in project work plans.
  • Interpret the analytical laboratory and geologic data and prepare reports documenting the work performed, results, and findings.
  • Perform assigned work in accordance with project schedules, plans, and budgets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time to perform fieldwork.
  • Support the following: Preparing scopes, plans, and instructions for project teams and contractors,
    • Planning and managing remediation and restoration projects,
    • Review and management of project data for reporting.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Familiarity with RCRA and CERCLA.
  • Experience collecting soil and water quality samples in accordance with standard USEPA field methods.
  • Installation of wells in a variety of hydrogeologic settings, supporting slug and aquifer tests, and familiarity with basic technologies, including removal actions, air sparging, soil vapor extraction, and chemical injection.
  • Technical writing of plans, reports, and technical memorandums.
  • Prior experience in providing project oversight.
  • PG or PE required.

EDUCATION:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or applicable engineering (geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, geological engineering) or other related areas; advanced science or engineering degree preferred.
  • GIT/PG or EIT/PE is required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum three (10) years related experience.
  • Candidates shall have worked as environmental professionals.
  • Federal experience working with Army COE, Air Force, and federal agencies is desired.
  • Duties may also include reviewing contractor-generated technical documents, field oversight of contractor activities, tracking schedules and costs, records management of environmental program documents, and environmental project programming.
  • Must have prior experience overseeing the installation of borings, logging soil and rock core samples, monitoring wells, and collecting and documenting soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water samples.
  • Must have experience performing aquifer and remedial tests.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Suite (Word, Excel, Projects, PowerPoint, Access) and Adobe is required.
  • Ability to successfully pass a federal agency background check is required.
  • Motivated self-starters are requested.

Physical requirements:

  • Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, sit, and/or stand for extended periods for multiple days/weeks.

Working conditions:

  • Ability to work both indoor/outdoor with exposure to temperature extremes and elements (rain, snow/ice, sun)
  • Ability to walk, climb, kneel, crouch, and reach
  • Ability to work on rough, uneven, steep, and/or vegetated terrain when necessary
  • Exposure to hazards/contaminants at times
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and/or heights/ladders
  • Ability to wear the required PPE, minimally using gloves, a hard hat, a respirator, and steel-toe boots that may be in combination with protective clothing/suits, a respirator, and/or a fall restraint/recovery harness.
