BAYLESS SCHOOL DISTRICT is Hiring a Parents as Teachers Parent Educator Near St. Louis, MO

Title: Parents as Teachers Parent Educator

FLSA: Classified Employee

Terms of Employment: August 1 – May 30

Variable Schedule Based on Home Visit Schedule and Events

May include Days, Evening, and Weekends

Reports to: Early Childhood Director

Shift Type: Part Time (maximum 29 hours per week)

Location: Bayless Early Childhood Center

Position Overview: The Parents as Teachers Parent Educator serves as a family educator and resource to provide the information, support, and encouragement Bayless families need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. The PAT Parent Educator will increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices; provide detection of developmental delays and health concerns, prevent child abuse and neglect, increase child’s school readiness and school success in collaboration with Bayless Early Childhood Center in collaboration with the PAT Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Minimum of 60 college credit hours.
  • Minimum of 9 hours specific to early childhood education or child development.
  • Preferred National PAT certification as a parent educator for Birth – Age 5.
  • Preferred 1-2 years PAT experience.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Working knowledge and competency in computers and computer based programs (Microsoft Office, Visit Tracker, Infinite Campus).
  • Personal, licensed and insured reliable transportation to provide home visits throughout the school district.
  • Experience and skills to identify with families from a diverse community.
  • Ability to prioritize, maintain multiple reporting systems and prepare, write and submit reports.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment yet be self-directed, as required

Essential Job Functions

  • Support and collaborate with PAT Program Coordinator and Early Childhood Director to maintain a PAT program following district, national, and state PAT requirements and guidelines.
  • Achieve and maintain PAT curriculum training for certification and all necessary professional development.
  • Maintain the maximum caseload of families as determined by the PAT Coordinator and Early Childhood Director, provide home visits based on district requirements, and provide development, health, vision, and hearing screenings.
  • Maintain organized client files, visit materials, and program records.
  • Maintain and update district and PAT approved required database to regularly track family visits and participation.
  • Ensure timely submission of time sheets for payroll entry.
  • Collaborate with outside organizations for additional resources for families and parent educators (including, but not limited to, St. Louis Area Diaper Bank, St. Anthony’s Grant, Little Library).
  • Assist in planning of and maintain attendance at all family group connections.
  • Collaborate with PAT Program Coordinator and Early Childhood Director support and maintain a community advisory team.
  • Participate in personal monthly reflective supervision and development of a professional growth plan.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of families for the PAT Program.

  • Complete other duties as assigned by Superintendent or his/her designee.
