GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a Masters’ prepared, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who maintains board certification as a CNS and is an expert in evidence-based nursing practice. The CNS is a clinical expert in nursing and in the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions which improve patient outcomes. The CNS also teaches, mentors, consults, conducts research, and disseminates evidence-based practice/research while engaging in advocacy and systems improvement. This role does not have credentials through medical staff and does not provide written medical orders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Designs, implements, and evaluates care programs to improve disease-specific patient outcomes across health systems through comprehensive assessment skills including review of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
2. Conducts and disseminates research annually.
3. Plans and implements educational opportunities for healthcare staff, patients, and communities.
4. Responsible for development, maintenance, and dissemination of Bayhealth policies and Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs).
5. Serve as leaders, change agents and advocates at all levels within Bayhealth and/or the local, state, or national level to create innovative solutions for organizational/patient care outcomes.
6. Podium presenter at a conference or publishes/edits literature pertinent to the CNS role.
7. Provides consultation to the interprofessional team to direct the plan of care for complex patients to promote wellness including evaluation and documentation of patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
8. Advance the cause and incorporation of evidence-based practice into patient care and professional practice.
9. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred: Two years experience in a CNS role in acute care
