Analytical Chemist

Evaluates the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances in order to investigate their applications to chemical industries. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to analytical chemistry. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. The Analytical chemist develops methods for determining chemical composition (qualification) and the amount present in a sample (quantification) using HPLC/UPLC, GC, ICP, and Mass spectrometry supporting crop science.


POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking an enthusiastic person with a strong interest in research in the agricultural and/or Analytical chemistry field. This individual will assist chemists in method development using HPLC/UPLC, GC, ICP, and mass spectrometry. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, quickly adapt to changing situations and possess a willingness to learn.


POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support department in chromatography techniques. Respond to collaborators inquiries and troubleshooting requests. Prepare samples for analytical analysis from biological matrices. Optimize and develop new sample preparation methods. Lead efforts to develop new assays and improve existing methods. Writing of reports and test methods. Analyze data to share with collaborators.


REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES:

  • MS with 2 years of experience or BS with 5 years experience in biochemistry/analytical chemistry/biology or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with HPLC for the characterization of small molecules, as well as method development for quantitation of analytes from complex matrices.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting HPLC, GC, and/or ICP instruments.
  • Experience in sample preparation and method development of chemical samples.
  • Experience with robotic sample preparation valued but not required.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated. Flexible, able to respond quickly to shifting priorities and able to multitask.
