Bay Vista Assisted Living is Hiring a Home Health Aide (HHA)/ Bay Vista Assisted Living Near Long Beach, NY

Position Summary:

Assists residents with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, comfort and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment for an assigned group of residents. Assists residents with self-administration of medications as directed by Registered Nurse and as ordered by Medical Provider. Also assists in general supervision of the facility, and other related functions and tasks as assigned by the ALP Administrator.

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years or older. Must hold a certificate as HHA. Must be fluent in English and have adequate written and verbal skills to be able to communicate effectively with patients and other professionals, and be able to document clearly in charts and reports.

Satisfactory completion of New York State Department of Health approved certified Nursing Assistant program or certified Home Health aide training program.

Satisfactory completion of Morningside House Training Program on Assisting ALP Residents With Self-Administration Of Medication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides morning care, which may include bed bath, shower or whirlpool, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing residents, changing bed linen, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the day.
  • Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, freshening linen, straightening room and other general care as needed.
  • Assists residents with self-administration of medications as directed by Registered Nurse and ordered by Medical Provider and following policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that medications and supplies are stored safely according to policy and procedure.
  • Documents observations of resident self-administration of medications immediately after assisting resident.
  • Assists nurse in treatment procedures.
  • Assists in ambulating the residents.
  • Participates in socialization activities with residents as needed
  • Ensures residents are dressed properly and assists, as necessary.
  • Checks unit for adequate linen. Folds neatly and arranges linen in linen closet. Cleans linen cart. Provides clean linen and clothing. Makes beds.
  • Accompanies residents to appointments, as directed.
  • Distributes drinking water and other nourishments to residents as necessary.
  • Answers residents' call lights, anticipates residents' needs and makes rounds.
  • Assists residents with handling and care of clothing and other personal property (including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and prosthetic devices).
  • Reports and, when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents.
  • Participates in and contributes to Resident Care Conferences.
  • Keeps all areas clear of clutter and overflowing trash.
  • Make rounds of building and grounds as assigned to check that all doors are locked, all unnecessary lights are out, and that no fire hazards exist.
  • Make daily report to ALP Administrator using departmental log.
  • Follow instructions of Fire Safety Plan when fire alarm sounds.
  • Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Reports to work as scheduled; minimal absenteeism.
  • Practices careful, efficient and nonwasteful use of supplies and linen and follows established charge procedure for resident charge items.
  • Attends staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.
  • Possesses a genuine interest and concern for geriatric and disabled persons.

Pay: From $18.55 per hour
