PAY: $23.00 for Non-Certified

Facility Name: BAY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Status: Full Time, 12hrs shifts, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am, (4 days on/3 days off)

Management & Training Corporation (MTC is now hiring career-minded individuals to assist with securing the safety of our communities while making a difference in the lives of those on the inside.

Position Summary: Responsible for the custody and discipline of inmates in the facility in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) and Florida Department of Management Services (DMS) directives.

Essential Functions:

  • Search for contraband and provide facility security.
  • Count, provide meals, and supervise inmates in housing, work and other areas.
  • Maintain the secure custody and security of inmates including observation of inmates, which includes climbing stairs, long periods of sitting, standing and walking.
  • Perform specific security functions including ‘pat’ and ‘strip’ searches’, by squatting and bending to perform such functions.
  • Transfer and transport inmates by walking or riding in vehicles. Restrain and secure assaultive inmates, as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain records, forms, and reports.
  • Read, review and properly apply information found in inmate records which is related to the health and safety of the inmate, and for the security of facility and the facility staff.
  • Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: commissary, property, transportation, education, food service, recreation, escort/roving, mailroom, laundry, visiting room, booking, mobile patrol, main control, law library, housing, special management area, and intake.
  • If assigned to the food services area, assist in instructing inmates assigned to food services in the safe, hygienic method of preparing and serving appetizing, correctly proportioned meals in accordance with pre-planned menus.
  • Respond to emergencies to search for inmates, administer first aid at the emergency site, carry an injured or unconscious offender, and perform use of force procedures, including the use of chemical agents and firearms in accordance with company policy and agency guidelines. Must be able to hear calls for and call out for help.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • It is expected that the incumbent will work overtime when directed to do so.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of the basic recruit training course for correctional officers required. Must be eligible for or possess a current employment Certificate of Completion for Correctional Officers meeting the certification standards as established by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Valid driver's license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
