    Pay:
    BCEA Members: Current Appendix B - 7.000: $28.44 hourly rate; subject to change
    Non-BCEA Members: $50 hourly rate
    SUMMARY: The summer counselor will work with teachers to help reduce the gap that was created during remote learning and prior. The counselor will also create, design, and implement social emotional lessons and activities to small groups of students throughout the camp day. Applicants must have a valid counseling certificate. All endorsements will be considered. This position will have 2 hours of pre planning prior to the start of camp.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
    • Prior to camp, help with contacting families (2 hours June)
    • Embraces a camp atmosphere
    • Evaluates student’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records.
    • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
    • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
    • Provides opportunities for students to develop and experience social and emotional skills.
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
    • Assists the facilitator and administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
    • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
    • Assists the facilitator and administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
    • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide biweekly progress reports.
    • Supervise and lead learning activities during field trips
    • Abide by the policies of the Board of Education, the terms of the Master Agreement, and directives issued by the school administration within the provisions of the Master Agreement.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students and Educational Assistants
    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree with a major in the assigned area.
    • A teaching/learning philosophy compatible with district vision for literacy and math
    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Michigan Counseling Certification.
    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedure, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, parents and the general public.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and present lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, school staff and parents; skills in oral and written communication.
