Position Summary

The Assistant Supervisor is a Salaried Non-Exempt position which contributes to our mission of saving and sustaining lives by managing and coordinating employees and processes in their assigned value stream in the production of IV therapies, premixed drugs, renal therapies, and other sterile solutions.

Essential Job Duties

  • Foster a safe work environment by ensuring team knows the cardinal rules, applying 6S principles to sustain a clean and safe work area, and regularly conduct Gemba / safety walks.
  • Set up line for production including having to step in and operating the equipment as need, ensure labor efficiency, and escalate staffing shortages
  • Along with the supervisor, motivate, engage, recognize, and develop employees to create a positive work environment
  • Support supervisors in hiring manager responsibilities : Interviewing, selecting, onboarding, and training new employees
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Project and Safety Teams, Lean Initiatives, Value Stream led activities and defect prevention programs
  • Review batch documentation and records, perform preventative maintenance tasks and updating electronic records in various software applications.
  • Perform scheduled quality checks, disposition product, identify any deviations that may occur and take the appropriate action to include stopping production on the machine if necessary.
  • Assist in leading tier meetings which include a review of safety, quality, and production goals
  • Lead or escalate troubleshooting activities with Quality and Maintenance personnel to determine the true root cause of non-conforming processes
  • Communicate with outgoing shift personnel to obtain information regarding any problems with machines, materials, etc. encountered during the previous shift
  • Investigate, identify, and correct or escalate any inefficiency in value stream performance
  • Take appropriate action if any safety, quality, mechanical or discrepancy issues occur
  • Learn, understand, and apply rigorous quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  • Willingness to learn and apply quickly
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a manufacturing plant setting.
  • Strong professional writing skills and ability to prepare technical reports.
  • Ability to understand GMPs and other regulatory guidelines applicable to the medical / pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong root cause assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to use enterprise software
  • Understand verbal and written safety and quality instructions and read and comprehend written work instructions
  • Must have basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members

Work Environment

  • In either a Class III Controlled Environment which includes the following dress / gowning requirements : safety glasses, ear plugs, hairnet and beard cover or a Class I Controlled Environment which includes the following dress / gowning requirements : safety glasses, ear plugs, jumpsuit, hood, hairnet, beard cover, gloves, mask and boots (additional PPE required when cleaning)
  • Constant or intermittent exposure to elevated levels of noise and vibration
  • Involves working around moving equipment, machinery and conveyors
  • Requires occasionally working with chemical cleaners and disinfectants

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Minimum 6 months of manufacturing experience and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Must have basic English written and oral communication skills adequate to communicate with other team members.
  • Understand verbal and written safety and quality instructions and read and comprehend written work instructions including words and drawings.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematics.
  • Possess or be able to obtain PIV (Powered Industrial Vehicle) Operator Certification

Preferred Experience

  • 1 year of experience as a Material Handler, Production Technician or equivalent
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to learn / use enterprise software (i.e. POMS and Maximo)

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Normal visual acuity and the ability to distinguish color are necessary.
  • Occasionally specialized physicals are required when working with certain drug codes.
  • Must be able to pass the P.I.V. physical
  • Must be able to squat, climb, kneel, reach above shoulder level, reach at or below shoulder level, twist and bend at the neck, twist and bend at the waist and balance

To that end, this position has a salary range of $50,000 to $64,000. The above range represents the expected salary range for this position.

The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills / experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic / office location.
