Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Radiological Engineer to work in our ESH&Q department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex in Idaho Falls with every Friday off.

You will provide radiological engineering support and oversight for day-to-day activities at MFC.

You will report to the Radiological Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides radiological engineering support and oversight for daily activities at MFC regarding Radiation Protection implementation in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 835, applicable DOE Orders, and the INL Radiological Control Manual and associated INL Radiological Control procedures. You will implement the RadCon program to include implementation and responsibility for performance of facility air monitoring program, bioassay monitoring program and technical support with radiological monitoring instrumentation.
  • Responsible for the implementation and continuing improvement of the INL radiological control program. This includes identifying program deficiencies, developing appropriate corrective actions, providing technical guidance for development of radiological control policies and procedures, reviewing new regulatory requirements for applicability, and reviewing research and operations programs for compliance with radiological control requirements. Required to support the implementation of the INL radiological control program to include identifying program deficiencies, developing appropriate corrective actions, providing technical guidance for the development of radiological control policies and procedures, reviewing new regulatory requirements for applicability, and reviewing research and operations projects and programs for compliance with radiological control requirements.
  • Provides oversight and review of operations to assure implementation of proper radiological control practices. Works with and supports the assigned facility Radiological Controls Supervisor and related staff. Support the implementation and continuing improvement of the INL radiological control program.
  • Reviews and evaluates proposed radiological work activities. Assists with Technical Work Documents development, ALARA reviews, Radiation Work Permits, Waste Characterizations, Internal Dose Monitoring, and Air Sampling performance. Ensures that radiological controls are comprehensive and documented in accordance with radiological procedures.
  • Know and comply with environmental, safety, health, radiation and contamination, and quality assurance regulations, policies, and procedures for this position. Ensure own safety and safety of coworkers. You will report unsafe work conditions to immediate manager. Ensure that the five functions of the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) are understood and applied when performing job functions. Ensure that Laboratory excellence is achieved through appropriate implementation of conduct of operations. Participate in safety related processes and programs as defined by the Laboratory.
  • Must be familiar with DOE ESH&QA/ISMS programs. Support and use the established ISMS principles to ensure work is conducted safely and meets the requirements for Safety, Health and Environmental requirements.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or related field and/or at least 8 years related experience, OR a Master's degree in engineering, science, or related field and at least 6 years related experience are required for the position.

Obtain and maintain Radiological Engineer general and facility specific qualification for assigned areas of responsibility at MFC.

  • PR0400 Salary Grade 230 ($124,368 - $211,596)
