Import Logistics Manager

Job Description:

The International Logistics Manager will be responsible for the daily effective and efficient operations of our Imports across North America, covering Ocean, Air, Rail, truck, intermodal Drayage, Brokerage Documentation, and Billing Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the activities within the company in relation to Import Operations covering responsibilities such as coordinating and tracking/monitoring of transportation services, working with Origin Teams to secure cargo bookings, approval of non-contract shipping rates, all while focusing on efforts to troubleshoot issues encountered both at origin and destination.
  • Manage the Imports Admin and Analyst Team, providing direction on departmental goals and setting clear expectations on prioritization of workload. Evaluate team performance and adjust responsibilities accordingly to best support the business.
  • Build and manage a cost-effective logistical plan for imports.
  • Develop and maintain productive, effective, and professional relationships with peers, superiors, auditors, and others. Represent the company in a positive and supportive manner at all times.
  • Managing Custom Entries and brokerage.
  • Facilitates the entire import/export process to ensure compliant, timely and accurate inventory movements. This includes preparation and routing of purchase orders, shipment coordination, import/export documents, FDA/Customs clearance and movement of goods from in-transit location to storage warehouse or customer.
  • Key contact for supply companies for all overseas logistics issues (import and export).
  • Maintains required record keeping for all imports/exports, compliant with both FDA and US Customs laws.
  • Key contact for FDA and Customs as it relates to imports/exports.
  • Resolves non-conformance logistics and transportation issues regarding imports/exports and communicates with supply chain team as appropriate.
  • Facilitates the distribution requirements and planning process to ensure timely and accurate product delivery, which includes product movement from ports and warehouses.
  • Audits freight bills for accuracy.
  • Manages logistics from supplier through to the warehouses. Processes documentation for import, export and domestic shipments. Communicate with transport companies on order status.
  • Has a formal understanding of domestic and international rules and regulations that govern the shipments of food ingredients.
  • Works with customs brokers, warehouses and transportation providers to ensure streamlined procedures in line with our business and products. Ensures vendors are in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Selects Ocean Freight Carrier and negotiates competitive pricing for logistics services.
  • Work directly with Customs Broker to file ISFs, shipping documentation and customs clearance.
  • Process original Bills of Lading with Shipping Line to ensure timely clearance at ports.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write/create reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Intermediate Excel skills preferred.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and vendors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience working effectively in complex global organizations, satisfying the needs of diverse constituents, and often working under the pressure of competing and sometimes conflicting priorities
  • Highly motivated, a team player and motivated self-starter.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to understand the priorities of numerous individuals in the context of the overall team and to prioritize own work accordingly, while maintaining excellent communications with respect to timelines for completing assignments.

Education and Formal Training:

  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Customs Broker License Preferred

This position requires someone that is highly organized, communicates information professionally and follows up in a clear and timely manner. The individual must have excellent attention to detail, analytical and time management skills. S/he should have strong written and verbal communication skills. S/he should have good interpersonal skills and a passion for providing excellent service. The individual must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude, proactive, responsible, results driven, problem/solution oriented, flexible to the needs of the business. Strong computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of web based logistic tracking programs.
