JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, performs treatments and provides exercise instruction and demonstration for patients. Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and complex procedures. Carries out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients. Instructs patients on segments of the program, including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces and prosthetic appliances and devices. Job is performed appropriately to the needs of the age population served as defined in the department’s scope of service.

JOB FUNCTIONS
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:
1. Provides patient care to patients assigned under the direction of a Physical
Therapist.
2. Documents care provided
3. Promotes team approach in patient care under direction of Physical Therapist.
4. Promotes education and participates in department tasks.
5. Performs other duties and special projects as required.
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Current Louisiana licensure as a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
Good organizational skills.
HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records w/o limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or public health records, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and/or 3rd party billing, patient-related complaints, and/or research information.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, validates, transports, monitors and observes patients for procedures, and monitors clinical alarms.
