JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION : Acts as the liaison between prescribers, patients, and pharmacy operations in order to maintain and cultivate business. The Specialty Pharmacy Technician also resolves any service concerns and relays potential opportunities to department leadership. Responsible for assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records under the supervision of a registered pharmacist for the age population served, as defined in the departments scope of service.

JOB FUNCTIONS

o Assists specialty processes through to completion
o Answers phone quickly and assist customers
o Intake and process referrals through to completion
o Collaborates with pharmacy department, pharmacists, patients and providers

o Possess excellent organizational and time management skills while simultaneously managing multiple projects
o Accurately enters prescription information into the computer along with demographics, insurance, clinical data, prescription and shipping information for new orders

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Maintains competency required for current job title / position.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1-years pharmacy tech experience in a retail or specialty environment required
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required.
SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Pharmacy Technician Certificate from the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
HIPAA REQUIREMENTS :
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records w/ limit to job functions both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information and 3rd party billing, information related to patient location, religious beliefs, research information, and/or public health records, employee prescriptions, investigatory information.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS :
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, transporting medications, and receives meds and/or orders.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
May require standing or frequent use of computer keyboard and sitting for extended periods. May require lifting over 20 pounds. Talking and hearing and vision occur continuously in the process of communicating with customers and other employees.
Retail Pharmacy experience required.
