Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Bartlett & West intern you’ll work in a stimulating and collaborative environment where you’ll gain practical experience and exposure to diverse perspectives. You will also be introduced to the Purpose & Core Values that drive the employee owners each day along with the opportunity to understand the benefits of an employee-owned firm.

Interns will be encouraged to network with other employee owners and to build relationships across disciplines as well as with other interns. We will provide organized social and networking opportunities throughout the summer where you will have the opportunity to connect with other interns or graduates that have recently joined Bartlett & West as well as meet with our senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

As an Architect intern project experiences are likely to include:

  • Exposure working with a wide range of internal staff such as Landscape Architects, Engineers, Field Surveyors and Design Technicians to external staff such as Architects, Contractors and Public or Private Clients.
  • Gain experience in comprehensive preparation of master planning, site plans, construction documents and the overall design process.
  • Work on a full range of assignments in various project phases.
  • Both in-office planning and design work and out-of-office field investigations and site visits
  • Display ability to grasp design concepts and express graphically.
  • Complete graphic renderings (both hand & computer) for client/project team review.
  • Compile data and performs some basic design calculations.
  • Actively promote collaborative and innovative culture.
  • Work with sustainability ideas and integration of LEED design principals into projects.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, communication and decision-making skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Be willing to try a variety of tasks and perform both office work and in the field work
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an Architectural degree program
  • Some exposure and working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) processes and systems preferred.
  • Some exposure and working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch-Up, Lumion and InDesign graphic software programs is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge about sustainability and LEED guidelines is preferred.

 Travel Expectations:

Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of field work on construction projects, visiting other company locations, attending business meetings. Engineer Intern travels in company vehicle or personal vehicle. Minimum travel is 10% of the time depending on projects. Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
