Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation is Hiring a Secondary EL Support Specialist Near Columbus, IN
Position Purpose Purpose: The Secondary EL Support Specialist, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and facilitate enrollment and intake processes, including facilitating assessments. The Secondary EL Support Specialist will build relationships with newly arrived English learners and families to assist them in navigating the high school education system. The Secondary EL Support Specialist will support the learning of language and content through communicating research-based instructional strategies to classroom teachers. The Secondary EL Support Specialist will be the hub of communication between and among the student, parents, teachers, school counselors, and administration to ensure the success of each student.Essential Job Functions
Support the philosophy and vision of BCSC
Facilitate communication with a focus on improving academic achievement for ELs
Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators
Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance for ELs
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
Facilitate various types of assessments and maintain data and record-keeping
Additional Duties
Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions
Work with counselors and staff during enrollment to gather student documents and complete EL screenings
Create test tickets, administer, and score secondary screeners
Assist new high school students with the beginning of the year and new enrollment questions/procedures
Facilitate and communicate SIOP learning opportunities for BCSC staff
Regularly communicate with stakeholders
Set up and administer yearly WIDA ACCESS test with EL Teachers and technology dept
Set up and administer AVANT STAMP multilingual testing for students to earn World Language Credits and the Indiana Certificate of Multilingual Proficiency (twice a year) – CNHS, CSA New Tech & CEHS
Report AVANT STAMP multilingual testing results to EL Director for reporting to IDOE

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
Current Indiana teaching license, EL certification preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of Indiana College and Career-ready Standards
Experience in research-based instructional practices for English Language Learners
Desire to continue career improvement
Previous teacher leadership and student advocacy experience
Deep knowledge of and experience in:
EL instructional strategies
EL assessment and data-driven instruction
English Language Development
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree from an accredited college/university
Multilingual proficiency
