Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Emergency Communications Officer to join our team. As a Emergency Communications Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring effective communication between law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, and the public. This position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to handle high-pressure situations, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls from the public
- Gather accurate information from callers and enter it into the computer-aided dispatch system
- Analyze incoming information to determine appropriate response and resources needed
- Dispatch law enforcement officers, firefighters, and medical personnel to incidents
- Monitor GPS tracking systems to track the location of emergency vehicles
- Operate phone systems, radio systems, and other communication equipment
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations
- Maintain accurate records of all communications and incidents
- Collaborate with other agencies and departments to coordinate responses to incidents
- Provide support to field personnel as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certificate in communications or related field preferred
- Previous experience in a communications or dispatching role is highly desirable
- Proficient in using computer systems and software applications
- Familiarity with GIS mapping systems is a plus
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and protocols is a plue
- Excellent typing skills with a high level of accuracy
- Strong conflict management and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations
- CPR certification is a plus
