Responsibilities:

The Senior Project Manager will support Barrow Wise's Chicago Public Schools (CPS) project and perform the following duties:

  • Coaching and guiding ITS and Business Leaders to ensure the portfolio of projects and projects supports the CPS Vision
  • Development of Business Cases and RFPs
  • Supporting business and project management staff
  • Mentoring junior project management staff and making staff development recommendations
  • Occasional supervision of personnel
  • Defining project scopes, initiating and managing large, complex enterprise projects
  • Creating and executing project work plans and revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
  • Initiating and managing multiple projects and projects in parallel and with multiple dependencies
  • Producing project reports and performance metrics
  • Communicating with the Portfolio Management Office manager and ITS management regarding the status of a portfolio of projects
  • Identifying and managing portfolio risks
  • Using influence to eliminate bottlenecks and potential resource alignment problems
  • Managing projects and projects within standard project management methodologies to time, quality, and budget
  • Identifying resources needed and assigning individual responsibilities
  • Managing through all stages of the project life cycle
  • Managing stakeholders and stakeholder expectations
  • Building strong project teams across multiple CPS divisions
  • Providing excellent service to clients (internal and external to ITS)
  • Effectively managing vendor relationships in accordance with CPS and ITS strategies and directives
  • Providing project status and other deliverables at each stage of a defined project
  • Demonstrating a willingness to collaborate and support the PMO and ITS peers and leadership
  • Planning, directing, and implementing complex projects on time, within budget, and with desired functionality
  • Supporting the advancement of the PMO's mission
  • Supporting Portfolio Management that provides a forward-looking picture of project work
  • Continuously improving the Project Methodology
  • Providing input into Project Management Best Practices
  • Educating ITS staff and CPS Project Management stakeholders on PMO processes and tools
  • Ability to work across multiple departments and negotiate differing priorities
  • Define, analyze, and document business requirements and business cases upon initiation of new projects
  • Provides technical consultation to business partners and technology management to ensure that the development of new and/or existing application systems use established standards, procedures, and methodologies
  • Evaluate the fitness of various tools that meet specific project needs
  • Draft and validate technical and operational requirements, assess and communicate the impacts, trade-offs, risks, costs, benefits, and opportunities of technology solutions to steering committees
  • Assist with the development of an architecture strategy and process that helps align technology projects with business requirements
  • Support the alignment and/or streamlining of business processes, technology and business strategy
  • Perform review of contracts and/or other procurement-related processes and work with CPS partners to define technical requirements for proposals (RFPs)
  • Provide a variety of services to appropriately position the CPS organization in support of emerging educational and operational needs
  • Document the service components, processes, dependencies, data, compliance mandates, and feasible technologies
  • Performing related duties as required
  • Work remotely

An ideal candidate has the following:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor's degree
  • PMP Certification
  • 7 years of experience with Student Information Systems and Project Management
  • At least five (5) years of experience in Information Technology
  • Experience in Education (K-12) project work, preferred
  • Proficient in Project Management and Business Analysis practices, principles, and tools
  • Knowledgeable about organization and process structures
  • Knowledgeable about Organizational Change Management, Technical Architecture
  • Proficient in Google Suite office products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to apply process standards
  • Self-motivated/willing to take initiative
  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships within own team and other areas of business
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, project and functional management to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions
  • Ability to work as a Senior Project Manager/BA on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Ability to work independently towards established goals
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Proven track record of leading large complex implementation projects
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiating, and influencing skills
