This position is responsible for the maintenance of county vehicles and equipment. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.

• Assist with repairs electrical, exhaust, fuel, cooling and hydraulic systems.
• Assist with realigns, adjusts and replaces brakes.
• Assist with emergency repairs in the field.
• Cleans and changes filters as needed.
• Services and changes oil in vehicles.
• Greases and lubricates equipment.
• Operates equipment to load and unload materials and supplies and to transport vehicles and equipment.
• Repairs and changes tires.
• Maintains a safe and tidy shop.
• Responds to after-hours calls as needed.
• Performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications :

• High school or GED.
• One to two years fleet maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements :

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Knowledge & Skills :

• Knowledge of county and department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance principles.
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment diagnosis and repair principles.
• Skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
