Position Overview:

As a Substitute School Bus Driver, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school. Your primary responsibility will be to step in for regular bus drivers when they are unavailable due to illness, vacation, or other reasons. This position requires a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of students and the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safe Transportation: Safely operate a school bus, adhering to all traffic laws and school district policies. Ensure the well-being and security of students during their commute.
2. Route Familiarity: Familiarize yourself with assigned bus routes and schedules to ensure timely arrivals and departures.
3. Vehicle Maintenance: Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel for maintenance and repair.
4. Student Management: Maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere on the bus, managing student behavior according to school policies.
5. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond calmly and efficiently in case of emergencies, including evacuations, accidents, or medical incidents.
6. Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with school staff, parents, and students to address concerns, report delays, or changes to the schedule.
7. Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations related to school bus operation, including licensing requirements and safety standards.
8. Professionalism: Exhibit a high level of professionalism, punctuality, and dependability, as well as a strong commitment to the well-being of students.
9. Flexibility: Be available for last-minute assignments, as this role involves filling in for regular bus drivers on short notice.

Qualifications:

• Valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with passenger, school bus, & air brake endorsements.
• Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
• Successful completion of required background checks and drug testing.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and adaptability.
• A commitment to safety and the well-being of students.
• Willingness to work on short notice as a substitute driver.
• Ability to obtain Baltimore County Public Schools Certification

Working Conditions:

This position involves various weather conditions and requires the ability to sit for extended periods, physical dexterity for operating the bus, and the capability to manage students' behavior effectively.
