  • Barnstormer Winery is seeking a qualified, motivated, positive and team oriented individual. We are a 4,000 case production winery that opened in 2013, mainly focused on single vineyard expressions of Finger Lakes grown dry & off-dry wines. As a growing winery, Barnstormer Winery is looking to hire a Hospitality Manager that is interested in elevating our brand to the next level of quality and hospitality. Being predominantly a direct-to-consumer business, the Hospitality Manager position is a significant part of our brand.
  • As a growing winery, we are looking to add a highly reliable core team member that can contribute positively to our culture, is passionate about leading educational wine tastings in our tasting room and works well with others to achieve common goals. The Front of House Manager is responsible for maintaining and developing our tasting room hospitality culture, event coordination both on site and off site, retail / food & beverage management, local vendor development, tasting room staff management and scheduling, working closely with other management including our Wine Club Manager, Winemaker and Owner.
  • Working days will be Saturday – Tuesdays, 9am – 5pm. Flexibility and a work/life balance is a key element to our staffing approach here. There will be the ability to add more hours as needed, along with taking one Saturday off per month, as needed and with advance approval from the Office Manager.
  • Key Job Responsibilities
  • Being a positive, hardworking leader in our front of house winery space. Management of the daily tasting room operations along with providing excellent tasting experiences to our guests.
  • Ensuring that we are providing a high quality, hospitable experience to our guests. Being able to multitask in the winery along with keeping calm and collected under pressure.
  • Monthly trainings and development of our tasting room team to promote growth, education and a continued interest in the process of making wine. Being a supervisor and mentor to our team.
  • A lead by example mentality with attention to detail, organization and a strong work ethic.
  • Address any customer concerns, complaints or feedback in a professional manner.
  • Working closely with our Wine Club Manager to assist with growth and development, packing and fulfillment of orders.
  • Food and beverage program development, ordering and inventories. Being creative is a big part of our approach with wine and culinary pairings. Doing monthly reporting, inventories and analytics.
  • Being a clear communicator, punctual for working shifts and an overall positive presence in our space.
  • On and off-site event coordination for wine club, rehearsal dinner and marketing events. Assisting with happy hour & live music events on Tuesday evenings in the summers and Friday evenings in the winter (Feb & March). Helping to book local musicians and artists for these events.
  • Occasionally assisting with harvest and our wine production, if extra hands are needed working closely with the winemaker.
  • Social media experience handling Facebook, Instagram and Mailchimp.
  • Creating systems to promote sales along with developing and tracking sales goals.
  • Must be able to take direction and feedback well, in an effort to continually improve.
  • Proficiencies with online systems, point of sales, e-commerce and general computer programs (word, excel, etc).
  • Experience & Professional History
  • At least two years in the wine industry or related hospitality industry.
  • Experience in a leadership/management role, or experience being a part of a team-oriented co-management approach, with the ability to be a positive mentor to others.
  • A passion for the wine industry. Experience in other wine regions is a major bonus for us! We like diversity of knowledge.
  • Interest in culinary, along with food & wine pairing programs.
  • A strong interest in working with people, along with being comfortable in a front of house role.
  • A history of being a sound communicator and excellent written skills.
  • Being comfortable working independently, along with taking direction from other team members.
  • Being able to lift 50lbs and having reliable transportation.

  • Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive industry hourly wage, DOE.
  • Cash and credit card tips from running wine tastings.
  • Overall compensation from wage and tips, per hour, generally will run between $22 - $36 /hr, DOE.
  • 401K & 4% employer match after 1,000 hours worked.
  • Quarterly profit share bonuses after 1,000 hours worked, ranging from $1,000 - $3,000 annually.
  • Sick days and PTO accrued for paid time off.
  • 40% off Barnstormer wine.
  • Flexibility with scheduling and time off requests. Most Saturdays and Sundays required. Tuesday evenings required in the summer.
  • Wine education dollar for dollar matching to enhance your education. Conference and trade show attendance will be covered.
  • A three-month probationary period will apply before the management title will be given, for training and review purposes.
