Job Description
The Registered Nurse provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. This position manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients. Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/significant other in order to address all identified needs. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient in the Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum periods. Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team, to ensure quality care. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the LDRP department as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. Develops the skills and judgment necessary to implement the obstetrical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures, teaching of and communication with patient and support person. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit to facilitate the department's unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development. Assesses and evaluates status of the mother and fetus in labor and documents accurately. Demonstrates knowledge to interpret maternal and fetal well-being and is able to implement nursing interventions to respond to those changes. Facilitates comfort measures for the patient and support person(s). Demonstrates knowledge and skill in nursing management of emergency situations. Displays knowledge of intrauterine resuscitation. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to care for patients with epidural anesthesia during labor and in the postpartum period. Demonstrates knowledge in circulating for cesarean sections including sterile technique and use of OR equipment. Displays knowledge and skills needed for post-operative care in the Recovery Room. Facilitates nursing and emotional care in the intrapartum and postpartum period for patients that have suffered a fetal demise. Displays the knowledge and skill to assess and evaluate a newborn immediately after birth and through the hospital stay to include but not limited to: Resuscitation per NRP guidelines, thermoregulation needs, Apgar scoring, infant bonding, breastfeeding, and required testing to include laboratory tests.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required or
  • Associates Degree Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 90 Days
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association within 90 Days
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
