General Description

The Staff Accountant will work in conjunction with the head of Finance to ensure that the assigned day-to-day workflow is processed in a consistent and timely manner, attain cross-functionality, and backup other accounting functions.

Essential Functions

1. Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.

2. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.

3. Creates periodic financial statements and reports, such as balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and statements of cash flows, including financial analysis and variance explanations.

4. Maintains the general ledger. Reconciles sub-ledger to general ledger account balances. 

5. Prepares and/or reviews bank account reconciliation. 

6. Analyzes financial statements for discrepancies and alerts the head of Finance, if necessary.

7. Prepares month-end and year-end close, performs the reporting packages to management and parent company. 

8. Assists with Internal and External Audit preparations. 

9. Assesses internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas. Ensures compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.

10. Provides follow up on identified issues and discrepancies.

11. Assures all daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines are met in the closing process.

12. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

 Education/Experience Required

1. Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
2. 5 years of proven accounting experience.

Skills Required

1. Knowledge of basic financial and accounting principles.
2. Natural proficiency with math.
3. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
4. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with aptitude to learn new systems.
5. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.

Physical / Mental Requirements / Working Conditions

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and arms.

2. The ability to use an office phone, cell phone, photocopier, computer, and other electronic business tools and related software.

3. Primarily in an office environment.
