BALVANERA SERVER ASSISTANT DESCRIPTIONS

As a server assistant, your main duties are to support the servers and bartenders and keep service flowing. The best way to remember it is “keep the servers in the dining room.” A knowledge of steps of service and restaurant products, as well as organization and time management are key to success in this role. A proper grasp of these elements will give you a lot of the knowledge needed to succeed down the road as a server.

Appearance

Uniform shirts will be provided. Please ensure that these remain clean and free of visible stains during the shift. Aprons will be provided as well. Basic dark jeans are preferred; with no rips, fading, or other styling. This is a physical job with a lot of lifting, carrying, and handling dirty plates. The role requires you to look cleanly and professional. This means well-groomed hair and nails; clean, wrinkle-free, hair/lint-free clothing, and simple/natural looking make up.

Some of your regular service duties will include:

Opening

o Fill ice bins at bars and service areas.

o Lay out flow-through mats behind bar.

o Polish silverware.

o Stock clean bus bins in server stations (1 per station) and underneath the bar (1 under each ice well, 1 under the end of the 3-bay sink)

o Restock plateware in appropriate areas.

o Fold napkins/prepare table settings.

o Start the shift with a tidy, well-stocked service station.

o Look for cleaning opportunities, inspecting the space with fresh eyes every day. Cleaning tasks may also be assigned.

o Bus and run food to tables; requires in-depth knowledge of menu and floorplan (training and testing by management)

o Set tables and clear tables. And, in between - service tables with new utensils, plates, water and ensure the table is always clean of crumbs, sauce, garbage, garnishes, etc.

o Lead the clean up of floor spills, glass breaks, taking out the trash, bussing glass racks and dish bins to the dishwasher.

o Help communicate table status to expediter and host team. Keep your head on a swivel when taking food to tables and returning to the pass. See if tables are about to be finished with a course, and inform the expediter when you return.

o Keep plates stocked for the kitchen and expediter. These can be pulled from the dish room once cleaned. Polish and dry if needed.

o Wash and polish glassware. Bartenders will participate in this as well. Polish and restock clean glassware.

o Clear and restock bus bins behind bar

o Attend to bar tables (hightops plus a section of tables, if applicable). Pre-bus, flip (see above).

o Fold napkins pre and post shift

o Assist host team in keeping bathrooms stocked of hand towels, toilet paper.

Pay: $16.00 - $25.00 per hour
