Baltimore Medical System is Hiring a Parent Resource Specialist - School Based Health Near Baltimore, MD

The Parent Resource Specialist will be an integral part of our SBHC team, focusing on the engagement and empowerment of parents and guardians in their children's health and education. This position requires a compassionate individual with a deep understanding of the socioeconomic challenges faced by our community. The specialist will facilitate connections between families, the health center, the school, and community resources, aiming to create a supportive network that promotes student health, well-being, and academic achievement.

Baltimore Medical System's (BMS) School Based Health Center Team is dedicated to creating a healthy, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students. BMS is a cornerstone for student health and well being. We provide comprehensive medical, mental health, and wellness services directly on campus, ensuring accessible care for all students. Understanding the critical role of family and community in student health and success, we seek a dedicated Parent Resource Specialist to join our team. This role is pivotal in engaging families and providing them with the resources and support needed for their children's health and academic success. This role is vital to ensuring our students have the supportive network they need to thrive.

  • Develop and implement outreach initiatives to engage parents in the health and wellness services provided by the SBHC.
  • Help connect parents to support and provide resources in the event of a crisis situation (emotional, physical, and financial).
  • Serve as a liaison between families, the SBHC, and community health resources, ensuring families have access to needed services.
  • Work with families to assess and identify needs.
  • Plan and implement appropriate interventions using evidence-based and best practice approaches, providing individualized support to families, connecting them with school resources and external services such as counseling, healthcare, and social services.
  • Organize and conduct workshops, seminars, and information sessions for parents on topics related to health education, preventative care, mental health, nutrition, and physical activity.
  • Collaborate with SBHC staff, school personnel, and community partners to identify and address barriers to student health and wellness.
  • Provide guidance and support to parents navigating health insurance, healthcare systems, and community resources.
  • Advocate for the health and wellness needs of students and their families with the school and broader community.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
  • Collect feedback from families to improve the services and programs offered by the SBHC.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to identify and address barriers to student health and success.
  • Advocate for the needs and interests of students and families within the school and the wider community.
  • Maintain a comprehensive resource center where parents and families can access information and resources.
  • Collect and analyze data on program effectiveness, making adjustments as necessary.

Required Education:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Required Experience:

Three years of experience in community outreach and support in under resourced communities

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with families from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, particularly in impoverished
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent health, wellness, and development
  • Knowledge of resources available to both the school and community.
  • Strong understanding of the educational system and specific health and social determinate of health challenges that our families face in low-income communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize in a fast-paced
  • Bilingual skills (Arabic, French, Spanish, or Swahili) preferred.
