JOB TITLE : Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) Student Apprentice
LOCATION : Assignments may be throughout Baltimore County Public Schools
DEFINTION: Under the supervision of a teacher, performs a variety of duties to support student learning in the classroom.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Assists students individually or in groups to reinforce the learning situation established by the teacher.
  • Helping with skills development, reading to younger students and assisting students to effectively use library facilities or assisting in other learning activities.
  • Under the supervision of the teacher, may a ssist with recreational play, including outdoor activities and field trip experiences.
  • Helps maintain an attractive, neat and safe classroom.
  • May assist in the preparation of instructional materials including bulletin boards, display areas, and interest centers.
  • Assists with the set- up, adjustment, clean-up, operation, and may perform minor maintenance on such apparatus as audiovisual equipment.
  • May visually inspect equipment for damage.
  • Supports cleanup activities.
  • Under the teacher's supervision, may assist with taking attendance, collecting assignments, and transcribing future home assignments or discussion-related topics as appropriate.
  • Assists in maintaining discipline and encouraging appropriate on-task behavior by the student.
  • Establishes rapport with students and maintains a positive relationship.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training and Experience:
Current or rising BCPS high school senior students.

  • Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) participation preferred.
  • Passing score on the ParaPro assessment is preferred but not mandatory for this experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality about students.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

RATE OF PAY : $ 15.00 per hour

  • Be sure to account for all periods of employment and unemployment, including student teaching and internship experience, and include names, addresses, and telephone numbers of employers.
  • Be sure to answer all criminal background questions. If you answer "yes" to any of the criminal background questions you must provide a written explanation. A criminal offense does not necessarily exclude an applicant from employment with BCPS. Factors such as passage of time since the offense, the nature of the violation, and the extent of rehabilitation will be taken into consideration.
  • Student workers must complete the online work permit information by going to the Maryland Department of Labor and Licensing website: https://www.dllr.state.md.us/ChildWorkPermit/web/content/Home.aspx.
Conditions of Employment:

  • Student workers do not have to pay for the cost of fingerprinting. However, all student workers are required to complete I-9 and E-verify documents in order to begin work. You will receive an email congratulating you for successfully completing the pre-employment paperwork for BCPS. The next step is for you to contact the Office of Investigations and Records Management at 443-809-8941 to schedule an in-person appointment for review of the I-9 forms and two forms of required identification. The location of the Office of Fingerprinting is 6901 Charles Street, Building B, Towson, MD? 21204.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in United States required .
Please note that BCPS currently has a vaccine requirement for all individuals conducting work on behalf of BCPS.
