Job Title:Utility Worker I - Construction

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the Utility Worker II in repairing leaks, maintenance repairs and valves installations; haul off spoil from excavations; backfill and restore the street with temporary paving and restoring lawns and clean up at the site. Repair and replace fire hydrants. Installation of water mains, service lines, and domestic service taps, cutting rights-of-way for transmission of water mains.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist Utility Worker II on job sites and train new employees.
Read and use maps to locate lines and valves to shut off the water.
Operate pumps, pipe-cutting hand tools, air compressors and radio equipment.
Install bracing, blocking and strap fittings, pipes, valves, cut and cap mains.
Calculate the requirements and requisition concrete, road gravel, fill sand and asphalt.
Flush mains and service lines after water mains have been installed or repaired.
Maintain and replace fire hydrants, notify the supervisor of fire hydrant part changes, meet with Fire Department officials when needed.
Communicate with customers by providing excellent customer service while performing duties.
Replace and restore paving and concrete, sleeves and landscaping.
Perform disconnect for non-payment and reactivate services.
Maintain traffic control in the work area using flags to ensure a safe working environment.
Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean and report all mechanical problems. Maintain a valid driver’s license.
Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis.
Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in the construction area required.
Basic computer skills preferred; excellent customer relations and communication skills preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver’s license required
Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) class A required
ADEM Grade I Certification preferred
