Ballast Point is Hiring a Quality Technician Near San Diego, CA

Ballast Point/Kings & Convicts Quality Technician Position

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tests and analyzes product at specified stages of the production process per the Quality Control Plan by utilizing relevant laboratory methods and instrumentation.
  • Perform analyses related to:
    • Fermentation monitoring (gravities, yeast cell counts/viability, gas chromatography)
    • Microbiology (sterile sampling, plating, use of differential media, colony identification and characterization, PCR, DNA sequencing)
    • Packaging analysis (TPO, DO, CO2, fill level, can seam, package integrity)
    • Analytical testing (ABV, IBU, SRM, RDF)
  • Participation and assistance with the on-site sensory program.
  • Documents and evaluates data to ensure highest Quality product.
  • Expediently and appropriately escalates any abnormal or out of specification data.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping of laboratory space to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assists team and management in drawing conclusions and making recommendations.
  • Ensures proper documentation is maintained for routine data analysis, inspections, maintenance, etc.
  • Equipment: Responsible for routine, basic maintenance and calibrations of laboratory equipment.
  • Problem Solving: Applies a range of standard procedures and principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to resolve problems with consultation from management.
  • Product Development: Performs analyses and provides supporting data to contribute to product development.
  • Projects: Engages in project-oriented work with specific instructions and prepares reports to document findings and recommendations.
  • Reports: Contributes data to technical reports. Compiles, evaluates, and reports statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
  • Supervision: Performs assignments of a basic to moderate degree of complexity under general direction.
  • Follow SOPs and practice all Brewery Safety Procedures - safely, efficiently, and effectively work to attain department and brewery goals and objectives
  • Other duties if/as necessary

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working brewing knowledge and/or College degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science) or Engineering
  • 0-2 years of QA/QC laboratory experience in an applicable field
  • Works effectively both independently and as a team
  • Is self-motivated and thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Loves to work hard and have fun!

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from an accredited institution (IBD, UC Davis, etc.)
  • 1 years in brewing, food, or fermentation industry

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Ability to work at least 8 hours
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Ability to work with long periods of sitting/walking/standing and crouching
  • Will work in an industrial setting with heavy moving machinery, loud noises, textured floors and chemicals
  • Will be exposed to various weather and temperature conditions both indoors and outdoors

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $21.00
