Ballard’s Technology and Product Development Department has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Test Engineer/Applied Scientist to join the Systems Engineering team at our Burnaby, BC headquarters. As a Test Engineer, you will be looking to find the limits of new fuel cell system technology in a world-class test lab, surrounded by industry experts. The highly cross-functional role requires coordination with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls, Systems Design and Research. Responsibilities:
•Setup and execute fuel cell component and module level tests
•Prepare Preliminary Hazard Assessments and test protocols
•Analyze data, assess conformity to requirements and prepare appropriate reports and/or presentations to support your findings
•Troubleshoot test equipment, test stations and fuel cell systems
•Analyze data of deployed Ballard fuel cell modules
•Assist in the development of test requirements based on design requirements
•Identify, source and qualify novel measurement techniques
•Work with internal lab equipment support teams to maximize data quality and equipment uptime
Requirements:
•B.Sc. degree in engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical, mechatronics, engineering physics) or related field.
•1-3 years of experience in a relevant industry
•Good knowledge of structural design, thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics
•Experience with standard engineering practices such as DFMEA, DVP&R and 8D
•Programming experience in VBA, MATLAB or Python
•Strong written and oral communication skills.
•Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
•Excellent time management, organizational skills and attention to detail
•Experience working with your hands.
•Practical experience with mechanical and electrical systems is highly preferable.
•Previous background with fuel cells and/or fuel cell systems is highly preferable.
The typical hiring range for this position is CAD$60,000 - CAD$75,000 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual short-term and long-term bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
