Balance Financial Management is Hiring a Director of Client Accounting Near Santa Barbara, CA

We are a finance management firm, based in Santa Barbara, Calif., focusing on providing a premium service to our clients to create opportunities for greater impact in the world. Our business is about people and gaining fulfillment through our work!
Balance is looking to add a Director of Client Accounting to our team. This position is an extension role to increase our accounting teams' reach and elevate the financial services we provide to our clients. The role is responsible for managing team leads providing the financial operations of managed accounting clients, providing financial expertise to clients on advanced issues, and leveraging innovation to drive progress internally and externally. This key role will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements performed by the teams within the client's contracted scope of work.
We are looking for a superstar who loves to learn, goes the extra mile, and makes a tangible difference in service delivery to our clients. The ideal candidate is collaborative, cares about people, and is hyper-attentive to details and clarity in both work product and communication.
Due to the remote nature of the position, demonstrated reprioritization skills, juggling multiple concurrent deadlines, and consistent attention to team and client communications are imperative.
What we need:
  • Experience in managing team leads (Controllers & CPAs) and driving progress. This is a great position for someone to whom GAAP is second nature and who is now looking to expand through client advisory services and team engagement.
  • Ability to quickly assess and respond to challenges. Build proactive touch points or processes to ensure smooth and consistent workflow cycles.
  • A growth-oriented leader, who takes ownership of the roles and responsibilities, and who challenges themselves and others to continuously level up.

What we offer:
  • Great Salary and Bonus Incentives.
  • Full benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement Match, Flex Spending).
  • Flexibility in work schedule and environment.
  • The opportunity to make a difference in the workplace, service delivery, and the growth of multiple companies.
Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Manage 2-3 Controller direct reports.
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to clients, providing analysis and recommendations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements.
  • Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with client leadership. Review financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep the senior leadership abreast of the organization’s financial status.
  • Verify financial reports are presented in an accurate and timely manner; are clearly communicated, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the client board of directors; assess and implement any changes necessary.
  • Ensure that the contract billing and collection schedules are adhered to, and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial policies and procedures that align with the organization’s values and strategic goals.
 Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred (active or inactive)
  • At least 10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6 plus years of broad financial and operations management experience in a complex setting managing teams. Not-for-profit expertise strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing strategies and staff, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and sound decision-making skills.
  • Federal grants management expertise highly desirable.
  • Experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a company, division, or significant area.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -- clientele who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and training programs that maximize individual and company goals; comfort and flexibility to handle change, change management, and new technology or process adoption and implementation.
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to work calmly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the vision and values of a company.
