The Teacher Development Officer will ensure the district curriculum, instruction, and assessments are aligned with state and national standards. The successful individual is an independent thinker, a data wizard and effective communicator who is constantly thinking about how to maximize learning for children. The Officer will create and implement professional development to address instructional gaps across the district based on analysis and tracking of data; Will apply professional expertise and knowledge of best practices to provide direction, support, mentoring and training to teaching and other program staff. With a collaborative and hands on approach, the TDO will work directly with staff and school leadership to promote developmentally-appropriate instruction individualized to each child and family. There are two Teacher Development Officers for the district, which currently supports 3 elementary schools and 1 middle school across Houston. The TOD’s will work as a team, directly reporting to the Senior Academic Officer to fulfill their responsibilities.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate Promise Community Charter School vision and implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment and related professional development to support quality curriculum, instruction and assessment.
2. Facilitate and supervise district instructional mentoring program.
3. Ensure development and implementation of effective mentor teacher programs at each instructional site for all newly assigned teachers.
4. Ensure the highest standards of education are delivered in the classroom through effective training methods including; lesson planning, data evaluation and reporting, modeling, or co-teaching.
5. Serve as a teaching ‘coach’ to district mentor teachers and instructional faculty.
6. Plan, coordinate and lead staff and curriculum development based on student assessment data, application of research and district studies to improve the content, sequence and outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
7. Oversee the summer academic and training programs.
8. Oversee the district Response to intervention (RTI) program.
9. Secure resources, inclusive of technology integration, to support achievement of the curriculum plan and student academic success.
10. Develop unique and novel solutions to problems that directly support student achievement and classroom instruction.
