Backyard Discovery is Hiring a CAD/Solid Works Designer Near Pittsburg, KS
- Uses Solidworks computer aided design/drafting (CAD) software to develop 3D designs from sketches and prototypes.
- Creates and revises 2D production drawings (detail and assembly drawings).
- Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
- Sketches rough layout of designs and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes.
- Utilizes knowledge of various woodworking tools, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, structure knowledge and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Required to follow instructions to maintain design direction and intent.
- Able to complete projects to meet deadline requirements.
- Maintains electronic files stored on company servers/vault.
- Convert 3D models to STEP file format as needed.
- Convert 2D drawings to PDF file format as needed.
- Review project details with Design Engineer, Engineering Manager, and others as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associates degree in Computer Aided Design/Drafting or similar Engineering related degree or equivalent experience/training.
- Solidworks 3D modeling experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Proficient with Adobe Acrobat.
Purpose of Role:
Utilizes Solidworks software to layout and design projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager and/or the Design Engineer or Product Engineer. Assigned tasks may include creating layouts & 3D models, creating 2D detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, etc.
Drawings are to include all views and dimensions necessary to manufacture the part. Makes simple decisions on projects with direction and supervision from the Engineering Manager and/or the Design Engineer or Product Engineer. Has a solid understanding of drafting principles, a familiarity of engineering terminology, and possesses mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Must maintain design requirements and specifications throughout the project and be able to complete projects to meet required deadlines.
