Music Teacher (including Early Childhood)

Job Title: Teacher Assistant/Support

Reports to: Site Director

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position PurposeTo provide aid to private or semi-private or group musical instruction to students on a variety of instruments and in diverse styles (i.e. classical, pop, rock, jazz etc.) and/or to provide band coaching to small rock/pop ensembles for the purposes of live performance and recordings and/or to teach music classes in the early childhood program at B2R. To provide administrative support, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Teacher Assistant

  • To provide assistance in instruction to private, semi-private or group music students using a curriculum based on pre-existing method books and specific methodology as well as arrangements created specifically for B2R music schools
  • To instruct students in the techniques needed to play in small ensembles/bands
  • To direct small groups in playing, performing and recording original and cover songs
  • To help facilitate private student placement in bands/ensembles in conjunction with the Site Director

Assistant Early Childhood Music Teacher

  • To learn, study and implement the early childhood curriculum as designed by B2R
  • To follow detailed lesson plans and activities instructions
  • To relate well to young children ages 3-6

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of music concepts and be able to communicate those concepts to students
  • Must play a musical instrument(s) at a professional level of competence
  • Must demonstrate the ability to run sound equipment
  • Must be able to receive constructive feedback on teaching techniques and apply the feedback to new teaching situations, and environments
  • Must be able to be physically present at B2R for scheduled lessons
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, i.e. telephones, photocopiers and computers
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and management
  • Adaptable to changes in the workplace
  • Ability to pass a background check

Education, Work Experience and/or Licensure

  • Teaching certificate and or degrees in music is preferred; those who are currently enrolled in a music degree program will also be considered
  • Experience in the subject area and or professional musical performance may be substituted for degree or licensure
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Language Skills

  • Must be proficient in English speaking and writing skills
  • Additional language(s) are a plus

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
