Babson College is Hiring a Director, Summer Venture Program Near Wellesley, MA

The Director, Summer Venture Program is the primary leadership for the program providing oversight of all program elements, mentoring and coaching protocol, and managing both staff and volunteers’ service delivery. The Blank Center for Entrepreneurship annually presents a 10-week summer accelerator program for graduate and undergraduate students. The program develops their entrepreneurial leadership skills and knowledge and helps them to accelerate their ventures. This program may be held in a variety of formats (i.e. in person vs online) and may be presented in name as the Summer Venture Program or Summer Catalyst. The intensive program culminates in a Showcase event, where the students pitch their businesses to a wide and diverse audience drawn from the Babson community and the Boston entrepreneurial ecosystem. Key Responsibilities: Oversees team and process to deliver high quality, 10-week intensive accelerator: Provide day-to-day management of the program. Set major goals and timelines for the program. Work with advisors to ensure goals and timelines are monitored for each entrepreneurial team. Lead the delivery team to provide a balance of inspiration, information and accountability. Determine content of programming, experts and other events, based on what is needed for the cohort. Monitor progress of advisors and teams. Schedule and manage biweekly advisor update meetings. Help resolve issues involving advisors and participants, including interpersonal and individual problems. Participate in the selection of advisors. Train and support advisors in coaching, guiding and mentoring the participants; help advisors with problems. Identify and help manage external resources, e.g. speakers, workshop leaders, Speech Center in conjunction with the support team; work with advisors to identify specific “expert” needs for individuals and groups of participants. Facilitate sharing, teaming, and peer mentoring amongst all participants. Other: Play an active role in the interview/selection/vetting process for applicants. Represent the program at information sessions. Connect entrepreneurs with/to external contacts as appropriate. Prepare all participants for an exceptional presentation of their businesses in the Showcase event (July). Assumes additional responsibilities as required. Supervises: Advisors Education Requirements: Minimum Level of Education Required Graduate degree required (MBA, MA, PhD) Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements: 10 years of entrepreneurial experience required. Experience working with a university or college in a teaching or coaching capacity. Experienced and knowledgeable about Babson’s Entrepreneurial Thinking & Action methodology including idea generation, design thinking, customer and expert interviewing, marketing, sales, pivoting/shaping, venture forecasting, and sources of capital. Strong coaching, advising, mentoring experience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to listen, probe, critique, and push entrepreneurs and advisors. Experience supervising and managing people. Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to the changing needs of the specific cohort. Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and interact with culturally diverse individuals. Works in partnership with the Blank Center team to advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts in alignment with Babson College’s goals. Ability to be direct/decisive and take action. Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results. Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions. Working Conditions: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive use of hands/arms (including computer use). This is a part time position, running from February to August. Available at least 4 days each week throughout the program during “core” hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday11AM – 3PM ). Full time availability during Showcase week (end of July). 3 or 4 meetings with Babson Summer Accelerator team during February, March, and April to prepare program elements, interview candidates, and coordinate logistics. Program dates are mid-May to end-July. Occasional group events outside of core working hours during the 10 week program for all program participants to socialize and build relationships. Effective November 15, we are requiring all non-unionized Babson faculty and staff members authorized to work on our campuses or any other property owned or controlled by the College to verify that they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Requests for medical accommodation or religious exemption should be addressed directly to Human Resources. Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities: Marketing/sales experience preferred. Engineering, product development, sourcing or manufacturing experience a plus. Experience raising capital a plus. Experience as a founder a plus. Cross industry experience preferred. Well connected in Boston startup community. High familiarity with and interest in seeking out new technology platforms that could enhance the summer accelerator program experience.
