Babcock & Wilcox is Hiring a Mechanical Superintendent Near Akron, OH

Responsible for coordinating the site mechanical construction schedule, execution plan, and managing the daily issues involved during the mechanical construction of solar generation projects.
The mechanical construction superintendent coordinates all site construction activities and supervises all mechanical field personnel as required to successfully complete the solar project on schedule and within budget. The mechanical superintendent works diligently to build a safe, high quality, profitable solar project. Proficiency with Office 365 including Excel, Outlook, and MS Teams.
Safety Accountabilities
  • Leads by example to show that safety is the most important function, ensuring that all employees follow safe practices while working.
  • Accountable to continually reinforce safe behaviors and correct “at-risk” behaviors.
  • Ensures Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occurs before the scopes of work commence.
  • Adheres to and ensures all site team members understand standard operating procedures.
  • Ensures new hires receive job- and task-specific training prior to work commencing.
  • Leads and support the site team in technical, quality and safety, utilizing systems in place.
  • Ensures company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy.
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices, and rectifies job site hazards immediately.
Planning
  • Provides information about site activities including accurate install rates for mechanical discipline, projected task completion and hazards to the Construction Manager.
  • Schedules and ensures appropriate staffing for daily mechanical construction activities with employees.
  • Identifies potential schedule changes, workflow, and staffing issues.
  • Maintains mechanical construction schedule, identifies upcoming issues, and solves problems.
  • Orders materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout the process.
  • Understands the project plans and specifications
  • Prepares schedules and supervises the completion of a final mechanical punch list.
  • Ensure that mechanical structures - including all foundations, tracker/tables, and modules- are built as per specification.
  • Ensure site prep work is executed as per contracts, design, and specification.
  • Inputs into the mechanical execution of the overall construction plan.
  • Reviews the engineer's drawings prior to beginning construction to ensure that the project can be built in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Establishes and maintains a 3 week lookahead on a weekly basis.
Leadership
  • Directs, guides, and coaches’ mechanical foremen and craft to ensure activities on site are understood and following established processes through quality checks.
  • Follows processes for systems and communication lines on-site and ensure implementation is consistent.
  • Assists with managing site personnel.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that project is utilizing Safety Management Systems (SMS), Quality Managements Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and technical procedures.
  • Identifies and mitigates potential employee relations issues.
  • Manages and supports employee development and growth.
  • Provides regular and direct feedback on performance and goal progress.
  • Coordinates and supervises all mechanical construction activities.
  • Directs all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices, and rectifies job site hazards immediately.
  • Coordinates all mechanical field functions including the scheduling of any required outages.
  • Identifies, deploys, and manages a high-performing team needed to accomplish business objectives.
  • Provides a positive and engaging work environment.
Environment
  • Provides the required documents, drawings, and other forms to active projects for monitoring and maintaining the EMS.
  • Ensures all completion of all required permitting activities before the commencement of work.
  • Ensures training is provided and certifications are maintained on the mechanical field staff to comply with EMS requirements.
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 3-4 years of experience required
  • Experience in the construction industry a plus
  • Expert-level experience with computer operating systems
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively to ensure successful project execution
  • Working knowledge of necessary industry-related tools
  • Proven ability to generate and deliver reports that provide useful insight into project details
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a passion for ensuring projects proceed efficiently and
  • effectively
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Maintain a certain degree of creativity and latitude
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative when required
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
