Bühler is Hiring a Research and Development Technician Near Owatonna, MN

Introduction

Sputtering Components Inc. (SCI) in Owatonna is a small business in southern Minnesota that has served customers all around the world for over 20 years. We are currently hiring for a highly motivated R&D Technician.
Every day, millions of people around the world come into contact with products made using Sputtering Components equipment. Our thin film technologies are used in vacuum coating systems to make windows, smartphones, display screens, solar panels, automobile components, decorative hardware and more.
The Research and Development Technician will find ways to characterize and improve the performance of SCI products. This will be accomplished through bench testing and process testing on SCI or customer vacuum coating equipment. This will require creating and implementing test plans to verify KPI’s of all products. The position will also support the process testing and verification for the production department.

Tasks

  • Collaborate with R&D team to develop and test new technology to ensure the company has a continuous stream of new and improved products to take to market.
  • Work with Business Development and Product Management to transfer products from NTI to NPD.
  • Operate and maintain all vacuum and characterization equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Support Applications Engineering and Sales to collect marketing data and promote product performance.
  • Contribute to technology innovation to expand the IP portfolio.
  • Travel 10-20% based on customer projects and conference attendance.

Required qualifications

  • 2-year technical degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years’ work experience working directly with plasma sources, processes, and applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the scientific method and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Strong “team” work capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Great organizational and multi-tasking skills.
