The B.E. Meyers & Co. Sr. Embedded Systems Architect Engineer is responsible for developing embedded and PC-based software for controlling electro-optical based products to ensure system functionality from prototype to production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the software/firmware and electrical disciplines for multiple projects.
  • Provides, or ensures, back-up coverage for all team members.
  • Provides support to other multi-disciplinary teams and the engineering department staff.
  • Responsible for understanding and adapting to new technologies, tools, methods, and processes.
  • Design well thought-out code using C with an emphasis on quality, simplicity, maintainability, and performance.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation covering software architecture, design, and verification.
  • Conduct software code reviews that include testing results and documentation.
  • Will review internal and external customer requirements and conversion to measurable system specifications.
  • Work closely with project managers to define the scope of work for upcoming product releases and provides accurate project status.
  • Anticipates, communicates, and manages project “show-stoppers” and/or other project risks, and escalates as appropriate.
  • Participates in the full life cycle of our products including design, development, code reviews, testing, documentation, and deployment.
  • Build and improve small and large-scale testing tools/GUIs, frameworks, and methodologies using NI LabVIEW.
  • Defines software configuration management and release processes.
  • Debug skills and familiarity with use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, function generators, soldering irons, etc.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative to solve difficult problems in an individual or team setting.
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth and BLE technology is a plus!
  • Familiarity with Android or iPhone application development is a plus!
  • LabVIEW experience a plus!
  • Other duties as assigned.

Will lead a small team of software/firmware & electrical engineers.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field, and five or more years of work experience.
  • Basic understanding of Electrical Engineering and electronics.
  • Design production-quality code for products and production GUIs for automation purposes.
  • Proficiency of C/C programming language is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to design real-time embedded systems, state-machines, and thread-safe algorithms.
  • Experience with graphical programming tools such as Python or LabVIEW or GUI development.
  • Experience with version control and software release pipelines.
  • Experience in developing and deploying embedded software on resource-constrained microprocessors.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of embedded serial communication protocols including SPI, I2C, RS-232/422/485, USB and Ethernet.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills at the hardware/software level using standard laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Ability to interface with test instruments using USB, Ethernet, or GPIB communication.
  • One year minimum team lead or supervisory experience.
  • Experience setting priorities, managing project schedules, and giving performance feedback.
  • Team player with excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate clearly in English.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to understand advanced mathematical concepts such as derivatives, integrals, exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • IDE tools and/or C/C toolchains for embedded microcontrollers.
  • LabVIEW development experience preferred.
  • Proficient with standard MS Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook.
