B&D Contracting is Hiring a Shipfitter Near Pascagoula, MS
GENERAL FUNCTION : The shipfitter is responsible for the surface preparation of structural metal components and the lay out and fabrication of metal structural parts within the hull of a vessel for riveting and welding.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities :
- Working from blueprints or templates, lays out position of parts on metal using a scribe and hand tools.
- Locates and marks reference lines.
- Aligns parts in relation to each other using jacks, come-a-longs, turnbuckles, clips, wedges and mauls.
- Marks location of holes to be drilled and installs temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting.
- May tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding.
- May bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts, utilizing the above-mentioned equipment.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES : Knowledge of blueprints and drawings.
