B&B Theatres is looking for a talented, creative, organized, and personable candidate to assume responsibilities for promotional efforts and collaborative partnerships at its incredible movie theater and restaurant location in downtown Kansas City! B&B Theatres is a family-owned and -operated movie theater company and the sixth largest in the country. The Marketing and Events Coordinator will play a vitalrole in establishing brand recognition, organizing and executing events, managing relationships with partners, guests, film studio reps and on-site talent, and much more.

All of our employees are cross-trained, so they are capable of helping and working in a wide variety of capacities. It is never boring working at a movie theatre!

If you are successful in your application for a job with us, you will be assigned a specific job every time you work a shift. However, you will likely find yourself doing a wide variety of tasks each time you work. You might sell tickets, but still help a customer at the snack bar or land a hand cleaning an auditorium between shows.

For part-time positions, we are happy to employ students, retirees, and those with full-time jobs. We will do everything we can, within reason, to accommodate a wide variety of schedules. It is important during your interview that you let the manager know about any conflicts that may affect your availability. The theatre is open 365 days a year with holidays being some of our busiest times. While we work with everyone to make sure they have time with their families we also have to make sure the theatre is staffed.

Qualifications


Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Working jointly with location management and corporate entities to determine marketing and promotional goals and systems
  • Collaborating with Kansas City publicity and events teams to develop mutually beneficial public relations and advertising opportunities
  • Overseeing the planning and execution of major theatrical releases and associated promotions
  • Overseeing the planning and execution of private rentals, parties, and special events
  • Working with corporate members to govern public, media, and press relationships
  • Representing the B&B mission and core values
  • Accurately reporting on efforts to relevant parties
  • Assisting with any theatre-related duties as necessary

Eligible candidates should possess:

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • A professional, clean, and polished demeanor
  • Commitment to organization and a disciplined approach to time and personal governance
  • Goal-oriented and team-centric attitude
  • The ability to present information accurately and in a variety of settings to audiences of diverse size and composition
  • A capacity to multitask and responsibly manage several projects simultaneously

Additional consideration will be given to candidates possessing:

  • Relevant or comparable publicity or marketing experience

THE BEGINNING B&B Theatres stands for Bills and Bagby, two families that both launched movie theatres and joined forces-for business and love-in 1980. The history of B&B stretches back to 1924 when Elmer Bills, Sr., bought the Lyric Theatre in Salisbury, MO, and founded Bills Theatres. It was there that he met his future wife, Johnnie, while she played the piano along with the silent movies. Years later, thei...r son Elmer Bills, Jr., was born into the business. In 1936, the elder Elmer hired 10-year-old Sterling Bagby as a concession clerk. Sterling grew up, fought in World War II and came home to marry his Higbee, MO ticket seller, Pauline. Together, they started the Bagby Traveling Picture Show and roamed rural Missouri with their films, projection equipment, seats and snack bar. The Bagby Traveling Picture Show screened movies in barns, schools and parks. Eventually, Sterling and Pauline's company evolved into a Kansas circuit of drive-in theatres and "hardtops" (their nickname for indoor theatres). Meanwhile, young Elmer Bills, Jr. had met his wife-to-be, Amy, when both were 13 (he lovingly refers to her as "the best popcorn girl I ever hired") and gone on to graduate from the University of Missouri in 1959. Elmer and Amy joined his parents Elmer Sr. and Johnnie and continued the expansion of Bills Theatres, Inc. On January 1, 1980, the Bills and Bagby families cemented decades of friendship by formally joining their two theatre companies into B&B Theatres. At the same time, Sterling and Pauline's son Bob married Elmer and Amy's daughter Bridget truly wedding the families together.
