City of Melbourne, FL is Hiring an Electronics Technician Near Melbourne, FL

This position requires participation in an after hour's on-call rotation.

Under the general direction of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, performs highly skilled technical electric, electro-mechanical, and maintenance-related work in the operation, maintenance, calibration and repair of Water Reclamation equipment. Work involves installation, inspecting, testing, calibrating, and repairing all electrical, electronic, computerized control and telemetry systems. Assists in administrative duties as necessary to accomplish the above tasks. May perform the duties of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor in his absence.

Incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment and initiative in resolving complex electric, electronic, electro/mechanical and other maintenance related problems. Work is reviewed through records, conferences and observation of results obtained. Performs other related work as required.

Assists in the procurement of electrical, electronic, mechanical and other maintenance related supplies and components necessary to effectively and efficiently operate and/or repair Water Reclamation facilities.

Troubleshoots, repairs, programs, calibrates, tests and monitors equipment used in the wastewater treatment systems; including SCADA/Radio equipment, flow meters and process instrumentation.

Isolate all problems to malfunctioning electrical/electronic and related equipment components, test and repair and/or replace. Use a variety of electronic testing equipment to ensure accuracy of diagnosis; maintain test equipment and tools in working order.

Responsible for maintaining accurate records and logs of the operation, repair maintenance and calibration of electric, electronic, mechanical and other related materials.

Performs related electrical work as required. Work involves the responsibility of performing tasks using necessary safety precautions applicable to work. Informs and advises supervision of all pertinent matters.

Draws schematic diagrams for all systems and continued updating as changes are made.

Evaluates, diagnoses, troubleshoots and facilitates the repair of malfunctioning electric, electronic, mechanical and related equipment.

Contributes to the planning and formulation of Division operational and capital improvement budget.

* Associates Degree from an accredited college, technical institute or university in electronics or related field (proof of degree must be uploaded with application).

* A minimum of four (4) years experience in the installation, operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment associated with wastewater treatment or water treatment.

* Must have training in electronic control, instrumentation, remote data acquisition or related field.

* Experience with Rockwell Automation software and Data Flow Systems (DFS) SCADA preferred.

* Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's license.

Considerable knowledge of installation, repair and troubleshooting of Water Reclamation type electrical and electronic equipment and related maintenance responsibilities.

Considerable knowledge of computer networking, fiber optics, MS Excel, Visual Basic and MACRO programming. Ability to access and enter data in a computer.

Considerable knowledge of instrumentation, calibration, testing and repair procedures in a commercial/industrial environment.

Knowledge of Data Flow Systems (DFS) SCADA, PLC networks, and computerized industrial processes.

Knowledge of digital communication protocols: RS-232/422/485, USB and Ethernet.Interprets system diagnostics, alarm messages, indicators and coordinates appropriate corrective actions relating to SCADA network.

Knowledge of automation control systems including electrical motors, variable frequency drives, and motor controllers.

Knowledge in telemetry and control systems for wastewater treatment plants such as pump status with alarms, water level measuring and recording equipment, pump controllers and online process instrumentation.

Ability to read and draw schematic diagrams and prints for updating of changing instrumentation and telemetry systems.

Ability to learn and adhere to City purchasing principles and practices. Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including repairs and calibration records, preventative maintenance, and workorders.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, technical representatives, and the general public.

Ability to use calibratiors, multimeters, megohmmeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power supplies and other associated test equipment.

Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations as identified by City Staff.

Ability and willingness to be in an after hour's on-call rotation.

Ability to work independently to improve equipment performance through plant automation processes.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to operate vehicle, i.e. pickup, van etc., at night during inclement weather.

Ability to speak, hear and understand conversations in English in a normal tone of voice, both in person and by telephone.

Ability to use senses including sight, smell, hearing and touch in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment. Binocular vision required for depth perception.

Ability to see and read prints, letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols which are both large and small.

Ability to correctly identify colors and hues, tints, and shades of colors by sight.

Ability to walk, stand or sit for periods of up to one (1) hour.

Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, diagrams, and symbols. Must be legible and understood by others.

Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists and fingers. Dexterity, including fine motor skills required.

Ability to move from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling or squatting position and vice-versa periodically.

Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting positions.

Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.

Ability to verbally communicate in person and by telephone.

Ability to perform data entry tasks on a computer.

Ability to learn tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up and down ladders and stairs.

Ability to lift and/or carry items which are awkward to grasp or hold onto.

Ability to climb ladders up to 40 feet high.

Ability to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds up to or down from overheard.

Ability to work in undesirable conditions which include heat, humidity, wetness, cold, dust, dirt, excessive noise and/or odorous environments.

Ability to work around various hazardous chemicals and materials.
