Job Description

ELL Teacher

Job Summary

Under the immediate direction of the Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Federal Programs, to provide an education program for ELL students and assist other school programs as assigned.

Reports to: Associate Superintendent for Instruction and Federal Programs

 Qualifications

  1. Possess or be eligible for New Mexico Level II Teaching License.
  2. Possess or be eligible for Bilingual or TESOL endorsement.
  3. Familiarity and Experience with best practice in instruction
  4. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and implement strategies for teaching ELL students.
  5. Demonstrated communication and public relation skills.
  6. Demonstrated organizational and computer skills.
  7. Ability to communicate effectively in large and small group settings.
  8. Ability to perform essential job functions
  9. Must complete a finger-print background check

Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience in the related Field
  2. MA in TESOL or English Language Learner Studies
  3. Working knowledge of the Spanish Language

Essential Functions

  1. Coordinate ELL program to ensure equal educational opportunities to Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.
  2. Plan, develop, and implement ELL instruction for grades K-12.
  3. Coordinate and administer state mandated English proficiency assessment to all students with a primary home language other than English (PHLOTE) as per PED requirements.
  4. Develop ELL curricula; make recommendations on ELL instructional materials.
  5. Assist teachers with materials adaptations and/or development to meet the needs of ELL students in their class.
  6. Work closely with teaching staff in on-going assessment of student progress toward program goals and objectives.
  7. Coordinate and schedule with classroom teachers to provide service times for all eligible ELL students.
  8. Differentiate for individual students based on their unique learning needs so all students are appropriately engaged and challenged.
  9. Communicate respectfully and thoughtfully with parent/guardians remaining sensitive to different cultures, values and needs.
  10. Provide leadership for ELL educational assistants in best instructional practices.
  11. Provide leadership for ELL educational assistants in developing schedules for times in classrooms.
  12. Organize and preside over meetings with ELL educational assistants monthly or as needed.
  13. Oversee maintenance of ELL student information and assessment files.
  14. Keep Associate Superintendent informed of ELL students and program progress.
  15. Attend ELL testing trainings and workshops as needed.
  16. Work with Data and Assessment Coordinator
  17. Participate in professional development through, but not limited to, webinars, conferences, professional literature, in order to be aware of current theory in ELL and instructional best practices.
  18. Treat people with dignity and respect.
  19. Perform other duties and any and all other tasks as assigned by the Associate Superintendent.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in a K-12 classroom. Please see qualifications.

  • Ability to assist with the preparation of reports, correspondence, and grants. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff, students, peers and community.
