AZTEC MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICTJob DescriptionEducational AssistantJob SummaryUnder direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide staff support in an educational environment, with emphasis on providing support to teachers, staff and students. Position generally works with children individually in providing basic instruction in reading, writing, math, spelling, art, or other education-related activities. Incumbents assist teachers with all other facets of school activities. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according the needs of the assigned teacher(s). Performs related work as directed.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk or hear and use hands to finger, handle, type or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Certificates LicensesMust possess a New Mexico Educational Assistant License – Level 3
Terms of EmploymentAppropriate placement on the Salary Schedule and the Aztec School District Calendar.
EvaluationPerformance of duties will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy.
Physical Rating LevelThis position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes. “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.

Reports to: Building Principal
Qualifications
- Current Level III license or eligible for Level III Educational Assistant License
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work, and effectively attend to the needs of school age children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Additional hours training preferred.
- Must complete a fingerprint background check
- Knowledge of Data Driven Instructional Practices and Professional Learning Communities
- Assist students and teachers in classrooms
- Work with students to reinforce skills initially taught by the teacher
- Guide independent study, enrichment, and remedial work of individual and small groups of students
- Assist with appropriate student assessments
- Maintain records of services rendered to individual students
- Maintain a professional and positive working relationship with the classroom teacher
- Keep the teacher/coordinator updated on the progress of students
- Other duties as assigned
