Responsibilities

As the Director of Surveying Operations at Ayoroa Simmons, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Directing and supervising the day-to-day activities of the Surveying Department, emphasizing the use of cutting-edge tools with adherence to current industry standards.
  • Coordinating all surveying projects, overseeing the surveying staff, building client relations, and collaborating with other departments at Ayoroa Simmons.
  • Assisting in the creation and execution of strategic plans for the Surveying Department, with a focus on innovative solutions.
  • Assisting in the creation of the Surveying Department budget, ensuring it aligns with investments in equipment and technology.
  • Reviewing monthly financial reports for the Surveying Department, with an eye on financial sustainability.
  • Reviewing surveys upon their completion, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Signing and sealing survey documents that incorporate advanced techniques.
  • Supervising and coordinating the activities of field and office staff, promoting efficient workflows.
  • Providing project management and oversight for all surveying projects, leveraging cutting-edge tools.
  • Assisting Business Development in responding to RFPs and RFQs from clients and prospects, showcasing our capabilities.
  • Preparing proposals and cost estimates for clients and prospects, highlighting the value of our innovative solutions.
  • Working directly with surveying staff and engineering staff to ensure seamless integration of technology.
  • Performing research to obtain the land records and property information needed to complete various surveys.
  • Overseeing all activities of the surveying staff in the preparation of boundary surveys, topographic surveys, improvement surveys, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, subdivision plats, elevation certificates, right-of-way maps, easement documents, metes and bounds descriptions, construction staking, GIS mapping, and as-built surveys.
  • Mentoring and training survey technicians and field crews to further develop their surveying capabilities.
  • Mentoring and training CAD technicians to further develop their capabilities.
  • Contributing to the company's success by developing and maintaining professional relationships with clients.
  • Preparing annual employee performance reports for all Surveying Department personnel.
  • Tracking project delivery while working well in a team environment.
  • Prioritizing workload and scheduling projects.
  • Checking daily time sheets for all Surveying Department personnel.
  • Authorizing and scheduling overtime work as needed.
  • Reviewing and approving daily project reports from Surveying Department personnel.
  • Assisting the Surveying Coordinator in obtaining all the equipment and materials needed by the surveying crews.
  • Assisting the Survey CAD Manager in obtaining all the hardware and software needed by the CAD staff.
  • Assisting the company executive management in determining staffing needs.
  • Interviewing Surveying Department employee candidates and making recommendations to executive management.
  • Preparing various reports requested by company executive management.
  • Attending company meetings.
  • Being fully committed to the future of the Land Surveying profession.
  • Being detail-oriented.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Skills and Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • 15 years of Surveying Experience.
  • Licensure as a Land Surveyor in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
  • Expert knowledge of industry standards including but not limited to federal, state, and local standards, ASCE 38, NSPS, NGS, ASPRS, etc.
  • Experience with ALTA, Boundary, Development Projects, DOT, and Federal Projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Open Roads.
  • Key skills: Excellent analytical, team-working, and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to delegate effectively.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • A desire to mentor and see the profession expand.
  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on details and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Preferred Certifications/License:

Bachelor's in Surveying Engineering.

LS, RS, RPLS, PLS as applicable in MD, VA, PA, Washington, D.C., and other states as eligible.
