Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregivers

Axion Healthcare seeks several compassionate Direct Support Professionals (DSP) / Caregivers to work per diem at group homes in Coram, NY and the surrounding Suffolk County area.

To qualify for these Direct Support Professional positions, you must have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience caring for individuals with developmental disabilities. We also require:

• Valid CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Valid SCIP-R Certification (Axion to provide certification assistance, as needed)
• Current PPD or QuantiFERON Test (must be from the last 12 months)
• Current Physical (must be from the last 12 months)
• A valid driver's license.
• High school, College diploma or GED.
• The ability to attend a remote interview.

As a Direct Support Professional, you will assist residents with basic tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating. You will also be responsible for:

• Preparing meals, grocery shopping, and cleaning, as needed.
• Defining strategies and goals for patients as outlined in their individual care plan.
• Guiding clients and facilitating daily living skills, self-care, personal interaction, and social relationships.
• Responding to emergency situations by contacting the appropriate staff and supervisors as well as interacting with police, fire, and medical personnel, as needed.
• Maintaining complete records and ensuring effective communication of priority information to all necessary staff and shifts.
