Our mission-driven team is seeking a bold and dynamic Thermal Engineer who is preoccupied with big questions: Where do we go from here? What are the limits of innovation and exploration? How do we continue to evolve as a species?

NASA chose Axiom Space to develop its next-generation astronaut spacesuits for the Artemis lunar missions. These new spacesuits built by Axiom Space will provide astronauts with advanced capabilities for space exploration, while providing commercially developed human systems needed to access, live, and work in microgravity as well as on and around the Moon.

SUMMARY: Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Thermal Engineer who will primarily be responsible for aiding Axiom’s Power Avionic and Control (AxPAC) team with the design and development of Axiom’s Space Suits. We are looking for an individual with a strong technical background in testing and analytical problem solving. The role requires strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. This role is onsite and will be based at our Gemini facility.

This position has multiple job openings (and may be filled at multiple levels).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Work on a collaborative team developing AxPAC hardware for low Earth orbit and beyond.
  • Perform spacesuit thermal analysis and design.
  • Document and write analysis reports.
  • Use Thermal Desktop for modeling and verification of requirements.
  • Work with engineers to provide guidance and recommendations on design.
  • Perform hand calculations to guide and validate detailed modeling.
  • Participate in team brainstorming and technical review meetings.
  • Provide input to Project Engineers to forecast scope, schedule, and risks for all assigned projects.
  • Create presentations that summarize technical design information.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 5-10 years’ experience in thermal analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in Thermal Desktop
  • Experience with electronic component thermal analysis
  • Familiarity with active and passive component/system thermal design preferred
  • Familiarity with correlating thermal math models to test or flight data preferred
  • Familiarity performing hand or spreadsheet calculations to check thermal math model results preferred

Requirements

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
